Have you changed your diet at all since you've gained?

Many people regain. Don't feel like a failure. Don't feel alone.

Are the diets you've tried quite a bit different from your normal way of eating? If so, it's easy to drift back to the foods you like and regain.

What's worked for me is to make small changes a little at a time to my normal way of eating so that I'm eating essentially the same way that I always have. The difference is that I control my portions (not always smaller but I keep track so that I only eat as much as I decide to eat at that time) and/or find enjoyable substitutions for calorie-dense foods that don't work with my goals.

How's your logging? Do you use accurate MFP database entries? Do you log everything? Do you use a food scale for all solids? The food scale has really helped me eat what I want in the amounts that work for me. If you build an accurate and complete log for a couple of weeks, you can then look back through to see where you might eat smaller portions and/or make substitutions.

The closer you can stay to your normal way of eating, the easier it should be to make and keep a calorie deficit. If you do fall off the wagon, hop right back on it. Baby steps will get you there as long as you keep making them.

Exactly THIS. Small changes rather than major "diets" can be way easier to manage over the long haul.

And try to be kind to yourself. I've regained some of the weight I've lost, and I'm noticing that when I feel upset or guilty about it, that just makes me want to eat everything that's not nailed down. If I remind myself that I know how to manage my eating and exercise balance, and that my current weight doesn't have to be permanent, then I don't freak out....

    It's called yo-yo dieting.

And yes, been there, done that, gained it back, PLUS MORE! So, good for you that you want to stop it now before you gain it all back.

I've been researching how to stop gaining weight. One suggestion was to change how you fix your food: different spices, broil it instead of bake it, etc. Also, try new foods. Have you tried spaghetti squash? It is a great substitute for pasta. And very low calorie.

Compared to how you ate when you started losing weight and as you lost weight, how have your habits changed? Are you still tracking? still measuring? Are you still exercising as much as you did?

I posted on another board about how my habits have changed and it showed me that I am doing NOTHING now that I did when I started dieting and was successful. No wonder I'm gaining weight! I'll find it and post it on this board.
