basically i struggle walking due to having really bad hips.hopefully this will get better when i actually take some of the strain off them by losing some weight. managing 2 walks a week for 90 minutes at a really slow pace atm. any1 got any advice about what else i can do. theres no swimming pool near us and tbh i dont really want the lifeguards calling out green peace to rescue the beached whale!!!!! so i need something i can do at home which is pretty stress free for my hips...any ideas??

You could do some crunches and some arm weights? Even if you don't have money to buy some you could use filled water bottles or something.
Try to remember that even though it's not ideal, changing what you eat alone can be very powerful for weight loss... so if you are feeling like exercise is too much right now, maybe work on the food first and as you say, it may not be too long before you are able to add exercise in.
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
You can do alternating knee lifts while you're sitting (like walking but seated) and reach with alternating arms over your head each time you lift a knee. Remember to try to get to a challenging pace. This is good cardio too. If you want , you can add hand weights and you get some strength training as well. I would only suggest 1-2 lbs for each hand.
I know this works for people who can't walk. My mom has lost 180 lbs and has that much left to lose but at 550 lbs she obviously couldn't walk but didn't want to have surgery to lose weight.

My first piece of advice to you is: "Don't be so hard on yourself!" You are NOT a beached whale, you are one of us! We are all in the same boat. Some with more water to tread than others, that's all.
Now, about your need for exercise.....How about something like one of those Tony Little Gazelles? I believe they are on Home Shopping Network or QVC. I used to have one, but gave it to my Mother in Law. They say that they are really good for your joints, but still give you a pretty good workout. Swimming is great, but for you it wouldn't be an option, whereas there is no pool. How about a local hotel with a pool? Sometimes places will let you swim for a few dollars each time. Just a thought. I agree about the food. Manage that and when the weight starts to drop, your hips will be less stressed. We all have to start somewhere.... Good Luck and God bless!:flowerforyou:
