take a look at your weigh in history.. it tells your story.

The other day I clicked on "check in" on my diary...and went down to "edit" and it lists all of your weigh ins for as long as you've been on My Fitness Pal. It was a real eyeopener for me. My weigh ins were all the same over four years. The highest weight was never topped.. and I was at the lowest weight an equal amount of times..and bounced in between the rest of the time.

It was good for me to see that I really have not made substantial compete progress in all my years on here. The most I've lost is 15 pounds and always regain that ..and yo yo. All that work.. logging.. posting... counting.. exercising.. 15 pounds? up and down?

My takeaway? My head is no longer buried in the sand. I researched the BMI and accepted weight rangers for my height and I'm not going to kid myself any longer. At my lowest weight, I was still 10 pounds from the top of my healthy weight and could even lose 30 pounds and still be in the healthy range for my height.

I have a long history on another site. When I look at my history of weigh-ins I remember what was happening at that time: baby, depression, baby, depression, fire, job loss, moving 100s of miles from home, and then… stability and meaningful weight loss. It's kind of poignant.

If you have taken before and after photos (for me three years) that will be an eye opener for sure as well. My weight history tells me I was overweight, very out of shape, and grumpy. The looks on my face in my photos says it all. The weight history I have looks like an erratic heart beat on a graph.

I've had a different experience -I tracked my weight on an app (not mfp), and I started in the 170s, had a downward trend as I lost weight and then the last few years in maintenance I've been in the mid 120s-low 130s, which is consistent with my maintenance range. For what it's worth I'm a 38 year old mom of 3 kids, 5ft 6in.

I had some stress in my life that matched up with weight gain in the 3+ years since I started on MFP. My chart just shows the rapid drop offs because I stopped logging in whenever things got stressful. For over a year now though, my chart shows a relatively steady downward trend. I took actions to reduce my stress, at the same time as reducing my weight loss efforts considerably (small deficit, less extreme exercise levels).

I just had a look at my weigh in history and it was eye opening for sure. I started last year at 10 stone 6, lost steadily until I reached my lowest weight of 9 stone 4 in April.
I went on holiday to an all inclusive resort in May and my weight shot back up to 9 stone 10....or so I thought. But looking at my history it's clear that my weight gain didn't really begin until after I'd got back from holiday, so I can't blame it all on the 24 hour buffet and unlimited cocktails. It was just laziness and sloppy logging.

I thought this was going to be some fascinating look at what people typically weighed in different time periods and how we compared.
I have been using MFP for 2 years. I have tracked my weight for longer though. I reached my lowest weight in 5 years using MFP and haven't gone back above that number. I haven't made dramatic progress after that but I know that it is on my not logging as accurately as I could. I am better off than I was even if I am not at my goal. I feel pretty confident that I could at least maintain where I am.
