I will continue the low cholesterol diet, as well as exercising daily. I probably won't be checked again for another 6 months, unless a problem would arise. I hope this will help my numbers. If this does not help, as some of you have said, It could possibly be genetic. If so, then cholesterol medicine may be what I need to help me. :)

Thanks everyone. I walk daily, at least 3 -7 miles a day. I feel I get enough exercise, but my husband and I do like steak and pork loin. We are doing well , when using portion control, but I will try to substitute beef and pork for skinless chicken or turkey. Maybe this will help. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again, : )
Most of the research around cholesterol had been debunked. It turns out fat, particularly saturated fat and eggs seem to have no impact on cholesterol. It is the things they are packaged with that cause problems: refined sugar and refined flour in particular.

I have high HDL, normal total cholesterol and normal triglycerides.

I think the one tip that has worked and falls in line "conventional" wisdom - nuts, omega-3s and other good fats. Along with beans and greens. And fiber.

Read "why we get fat." That covers the great conspiracy.

If you are looking to improve cholesterol and health, SFA will not help you. They may not make things worst, but it certainly doesn't help. But keep in mind that SFA has only been tested at around 15% of calories, and it needs to come from whole sources (dairy, meat). The recent research certainly does not give a green light to high levels of SFA.USFA has been proven, especially MUFA, to improve cholesterol.

What everyone fails to understand is no matter what your cholesterol numbers are an inflammatory environment will negate any beneficial effects

The HDL amount is relatively unimportant, it's the eflux capacity of that hdl that is the mechanism by which it carries excess cholesterol from the body

People have a hard time letting go of the idea that cholesterol is an important marker. Or that statins are helpful (beyond for a middle aged man who has already had a cardiac event). This includes some doctors.

I got confused reading this thread. So to lower cholesterol is the advice to exercise more, and eat fewer calories for weight loss?
Eat things with fiber proteins and healthy fats? Is the advice for cholesterol the same as for weight loss in general

Try eating meatless meals with the main proteins being beans, grains or veggies.

actually thats not true with people like me who have FH. our livers cannot process cholesterol like a normal person so it doesnt get filtered through the body and it gets stored, our livers also send out signals for our body to make more cholesterol so cholesterol in foods do affect us,in different ways.I was doing lower carb and higher fat before my cholesterol issues were FH, that made my cholesterol go through the roof(higher than it was when I was just eating lower carb(not keto) which is why most of us have to have statins, which help filter out the excess and helps with the liver to not signal it needs more cholesterol. its a genetic defect.

I was eating hardly any packaged foods when it went up(I had quit taking statins to see if this type of diet would help,it did not). now I have to watch my sat fats, I am not supposed to have beef or pork, fried foods( I do just not often), egg whites,I have to avoid egg yolks, I am not supposed to have white flours, rice, etc. I have to eat high fiber to help my body also carry out excess cholesterol.I also have to watch my sugar and sodium intake.so what has been debunked for most doesnt apply to everyone. trust me I have had high cholesterol for more than 20 years and have tried different ways of eating to lower it, with meds, without meds. only thing that seems to be working is avoiding certain foods and taking statins. I can tell a difference because my xanthomas are getting smaller.

    I don't think it's been debunked.

Saturated fats are still something that are generally considered to be concerning. Dietary cholesterol isn't for the vast majority of people, though.
