I was just curious what do I need to watch more for a diet? I know too much of both is bad.

Too much of anything is bad, but both sugar and salt are fine in moderation as long as you don't have any medical issues which they'd cause problems for.2 -
There is a lot of research where some people think sugar is worse where others think salt is worse. In all honestly, I monitor both but watch my simple sugars more closely. I'd rather go over my sodium and retain some water versus eating simple sugars which the liver will turn into fat. So water retention or fat?2

If you are in a caloric deficit, there is no net conversion to fat regardless of macronutrient content. So at least there's not that to worry about.0 -
Salt for flavor on savory dishes, sugar for drinks or baking or to add a bit of sweetness to a sauce. Only reason to care about salt is if you have dangerously high blood pressure....only reason to care about sugar is in relation to your calorie intake and saiety.1

I don't worry about either0

I don't worry too much about either, but I stopped adding both to things I eat or make myself. I use differect kind of spices instead. There is still plenty of both in many of the packaged things I buy, though. Just me sensible and moderate. Works with most things.1

Depends on your goals. I follow a low carb high fat ketogenic diet so I keep sugar below 5g per day, and sodium over 3000 mg (over a teaspoon of salt).0

I don't worry about either. Just stick to your calorie goal. Unless you have medical issues with either, if you do then I would pay attention to whichever one your doctor says you need to watch.0

Neither needs extra focus unless you have a medical reason otherwise..
For your diet, watch calories.1 -

Sugar is high in calories and too much salt makes me retain boatloads of water so both are fine in moderation but I need to keep an eye on both...imho.0

I like both. I monitor neither.1

On a daily basis I don't mind if I go over one or the other a little bit.
I check on a weekly basis.
I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes but I think I need to be reasonable on average in order to avoid future health problems.
Eat what you like within your calories goal first then look at the sugar or sodium content if that worries you.
I used to eat a lot of chips but I worried about the sodium content. I like tomatoes that are lower in calories and in salt so now I eat tomatoes instead.
