Is burning 245 calories enough?

So I did one of my 21 day fix workouts today and only burned 245 calories. Two months ago I burned almost 400. Since this means my body is getting in better shape, should I do harder workouts? I still got a good high heart rate and great sweat. Just wondering if I need to do an additional workout today?

    "Enough" is very subjective.

Some days I only burn 100-200 calories during exercise, it doesn't matter, it's still exercise and adds to my calorie deficit. I just don't eat my exercise calories back if I only burn a little.

Your body has become more efficient. Celebrate. With something other than food of course. Maybe get yourself new exercise shoes.

You may have to adjust your calorie intake downward to compensate for your new efficiency.

I don't know what kind of workout you did, but if you mean your heartrate was lower, then it means you got fitter and not that you burned less calories. If you weight went down in the meantime: yes, exercise burns more calories. if you workout is some kind of cardio and light weight and bodyweight training: I highly doubt it burned 400kcal in the first place.

Hi all, I mean enough to lose weight. I'm 38, 165#, and used to burn almost 400 calories to cardio DVDs. Now I'm burning about 245. I eat 1300 calories per day.

It's fine as long as you feel good and are still making progress.

It's still subjective...you don't actually have to burn anything with exercise to lose weight...regular exercise just increases your daily energy expenditure but for most people, energy expenditure via exercise pales in comparison to just being alive and doing your daily...it's a pretty small fraction of your daily expenditure...so there's really no way to answer whether it is "enough"

IF you're eating 6000 calories a day, and your goal is weight loss, no. Otherwise I don't have enough information to give an answer for that... If your goal is weight loss, just burn enough to be in an adequate deficit. Exercise isn't even necessary for weight loss, so I'm not even sure there is a correct answer for this.

Losing weight is about your calorie deficit, the exercise should be an enhancement to your weight loss efforts and moreover for health and fitness goals..

Because MFP is NEAT + exercise, you are supposed to eat these back (a portion to help you meet NET calorie goal).. you do not have to eat them all back, you should be trending your weight loss along side exercise calories to determine how much.

Do you have fitness goals, or do you exercise for losing weight alone? I hope the exercise is for the former and not the latter.

Exercise for fitness. Calorie deficit to lose weight.

Yes, you are burning enough. Since you are eating 1300 calories, you are burning enough even if you don't exercise at all.

I would not trust the burn from your heart rate monitor though. For any exercise that isn't steady state (for example running, walking or cycling at a consistent speed), heart rate monitors can't estimate your burn correctly. There is also the issue that your heart rate monitor may not be the kind that takes into account your fitness level. As your fitness level increases like it did (evidenced by lower heart rate) the heart rate monitor calculations need to change.

Are you losing weight? Then you are burning enough. Are you getting better at your choice of activity? Then you are getting fitter. Both are nice victories, so well done!

Thank you all, I mainly exercise to stay heart healthy and be more fit. I thought it may also expedite my weight loss because it's so so slow. Thanks!
