Starting out lifting and I got a cold before I could even begin- what to do?

Hello all!

I am just getting back into the groove of lifting, but except for some of my kettle bells, I haven't lifted anything yet. Despite all my good intentions.

I went and paid for a gym membership last week and then I came down with a cold. I'm well enough to be at work right now, and I'm not running a fever or anything, just a tickly throat, no voice, a cough and a bit of congestion. I've still been able to do a bit of a work out at home, but I'm not pushing myself much.

My question is this, should I start my lifting program even though I'm not feeling 100%? If I was regularly lifting at this point I'd just go ahead as soon as I'm not contagious ( no need to infect everyone at the rec center ) But since I haven't really worked out I am concerned I could put my body under stress and this cold will just kick my butt.

Your thoughts? Should I just stop being a wimp and go to the gym already or wait until I feel better?

What's it lyle said... sick from the neck up, do it. Neck down, don't. .......But don't be contagious at a public gym, please.

We all get colds and have other setbacks. It's life. It will always happen. Just wait a few days til you're feeling better, then get started. Get well soon!

It's not a big deal either way. I've never found colds to hinder my performance in the gym. I once hit a big PR while sick in fact (about two years ago).

I'm of the "dont bring that contagious illness to the gym" crowd and also the "let your body heal optimally by providing rest" mentality. Not to mention the fact that a few weeks in the span of time is absolutely nothing in the long run.... wait until you're better and then start going. I know you must be excited to start, but it really doesn't matter if you start now or not.
