So i use my fitness pal obviously and i have a garmin vivo active hr + . so the neat method if im correct has the deficit already built in and you add back exercise calories so as not to eat to little . with the other are you supposed to just subtract 500 calories from tdee and thats how much you eat ? And which one do you rely on

How much you subtract from your tdee depends on your rate of loss.
Both calculations are estimates, not to be 'relied on' as such... pick a number based on one calculation, after 4-6 weeks adjust based on what your scales say.0 -
Both work out to about the same for me. MFP gives me 1400 plus I typically "earn" back 300 in exercise, whereas TDEE -20% = 1700. Just need to pick a lane and roll with it. I personally prefer TDEE because I'm a planner and like to know what I have to work with at the beginning of the day and back into it rather than earn calories throughout the day.0
