5K Success

On a whim, I signed up for a After Dark Dash 5K last Saturday with a friend of mine. I run a few times a week and usually do longer races (10Ks and half marathons). This was my first 5K and I was nervous because I don't do short distances!!! My previous PR, just running on my own, was around 33 minutes. I managed to beat that and clocked in at 29:03 for this race! I threw up afterwards, but I think that's because I pushed myself. I was super proud - from two years ago when I ran a 14 minute mile, to now running a 5K at an average pace of 9:22/mi. I'm sure losing 10 lbs has made me faster, too! I'm happy to share my success :)

Great job!!! I started off as a slow runner too and have slowly and surely been picking up speed. It is such a great feeling!

Great progress! I hope to have a similar timing on my next race (after the WD of course)

Excellent my friend. You have done so incredibly well. I was running 2 years ago quite regularly but after my illness stopped and I really have not got back into it. However, I started the C25K programme on Monday (second session planned today), so I hope that I too will be able to run a 5K soon. Well done Kate, be proud.

Amazingly well done Kate! Even on a really good day I don't get a 5k done in much less than 35 minutes (and often it can be 40 minutes :-( ). I dream of making it to 30 some day!!!
  • Way to go! It always feels great to cut back on your personal best time! :D

I'm preparing for my first 5k myself, super-nervous because I've never done a race before. my practice times are coming out to about 37-38 minutes which is a lot better than I would have done even a year ago, but still not great. What tips do you have for a newbie?
