How can I exercise while on restriction from surgery?

I am having foot surgery this week and will be off of my feet for 2-3 months. I will be doing physical therapy thereafter but I am worried about gaining weight. I have been trying within the past week or two to simply focus on eating and portions. Does anyone have any advice?

    You've said it yourself... focus on eating, eat in a deficit.

    I had hip surgery just more than4 months ago. I just reduced my calorie goal. At 6-8 weeks I was allowed to swim and do light upper body weights. At my lowest, I lost 4 pounds (could be muscle loss too). I'm back up a bit because I'm a bottomless pit for some reason :blush: Maybe increase in exercise and over compensation...

    But I made it 14+ weeks at a loss. Stay focused. You can do it. Work with your doctor, I'd think swimming and upper body would be fine relatively soon.

    Good luck! And don't abandoned your mfp friends. I would have been crazy without them.

    When my back hurt, my chiropractor gave me a paper with gentle bodyweight exercises to do lying down or sitting on something. It helps keep my muscles from getting stiff.

    I've just done 3 months with essentially no exercise, just be mindful of what you are putting in your mouth and don't fall into a pity party for one, it's very easy to do trust me!!

    Search "workouts with an injured foot" on YouTube. There are several. I just did the same thing because I'm trying to get past plantar fasciitis.
