Muscle building

I notice my weight still goes up and down. I've altered my diet. Cut down on sodium. Monday is can weigh in at 270, Wednesday at 267.4, Friday at 271.0. I'm doing alot of walking and toning, does the muscle building add on to the extra weight. Please help. Thank you

If you built actual muscle, yes, it would contribute to added weight. But you won't do it walking or probably not with "toning" exercise. There is nothing you can do about body weight fluctuation. It's as natural as high and low tides. Track weight over an extend period of time (4-6 weeks) and don't stress over the little things.

    In short, no.

While you can build some muscle in a deficit (less than at maintenance or higher), it will not weigh enough to make your weight increase on the scale.

The weights you have listed are within the realm of normal fluctuation. I would suggest keeping track of them and then paying attention to the overall trend over the long term.

Keep track of any similarities in your food or water intake, bowel habits, menstrual cycle, exercise and activities and you may see a pattern with your weight fluctuations. I find it helpful to weight at the same time each week....Monday mornings, as soon as I wake up and empty my bladder.

4 lbs of muscle gain between Wednesday and Friday? No. As others have said, just regular fluctuations.

this kind of thing is really normal. it's probably not muscle, except for a tiny fraction, but so long as you're feeling stronger and being active that doesn't matter. you obviously have all the muscle you need to be doing whatever you're doing right now.

i can gain five pounds in the gym, just by arriving 'dry' and refilling my water bottle a couple of times. five pounds really is nothing to worry about, though i know the first few weeks are harder until you get used to the range. please hang in for another three or four weeks, and see how you feel after that.
