Dehydrated?

I have been at this for about a month now and have gradually tried to increase my water intake -- I am averaging 12-15 glasses a day -- which is pretty reasonable since I am exercising daily and weigh 249 pounds. Does it just take time? I feel like I am still not getting enough water and my lips are always dry. This is overshare, but I know a good judge of how hydrated you are is your urine color -- that is still yellow-ish. Lighter than before though.
Am I sweating out more than I am taking in? I really don't think I can take in anymore water or I might float.
Please don't tell me I should be drinking more water haha.

Whoa, 12-15 glasses a day? You are doing awesome! I think it depends on the person. I'm not expert but I know that for most of the day (TMI warning) my pee is this toxic yellow because of my multivitamin I take in the morning, even when I get 5-8 glasses in. By the end of the day it is better. It also depends on what you eat. Your pee should always have some color, I think. But pale pee is good. It means you are hydrated.
In regard to your lips, mine are always dry too despite how much I drink. It sucks.
Good luck though and keep up the AWESOME work!0 -
You should be drinking more water lol I hate when people say "8 glasses a day" - and doctors say it left and right and I want to smack them upside the head every time I hear it.
Every body is different and people use their fluids differently and at different rates, depending on a LOT of factors, not just how much exercise you do (also how much salt you eat, what kind of shape your kidneys are in, hormones, heart, weather & altitude).
Your pee should be the color of diluted lemonade. If it's darker, you're not drinking enough.
PS. Dry lips or skin = dehydration.0 -
It may be other liquids you are taking in that are dehydrating you or contributing to the yellow...coffee, diet sodas, etc.
On the bright side, good job taking in 12-15!0 -
forget the water,
drink booze.0 -
Can you add water based foods like cucumbers to your diet? They might
help with your dry lips.0 -
Dry lips are a symptom of dehydration, but they don't necessarily mean you aren't drinking enough. I get dry skin and lips in the late fall and late spring. That's when we have to turn on the heat and air-conditioning where I live. It only lasts a week or so, until I readjust to the new humidity level. My water consumption doesn't change at all during that time and I've no other symptoms of dehydration, like headaches. Also make sure you're using lip product with SPF if you're spending time outside.
You can also get dry skin and lips from constantly wetting and drying the area, like washing your hands frequently. Do you lick your lips a lot? Its sort of a cycle;lick them BC they're dry, but that only makes them dryer in the long run.
Also make sure you aren't getting facial products on your lips, like when you apply skin treatments or wash your face. Your lips are very delicate compared to your face skin and can't handle those sorts of products the same way.0 -
You may want to check with your doctor if you are drinking that much water and still feeling dehydrated.0

PS. Dry lips or skin = dehydration.
I just wanted to point out that this isn't always true.
Previously I had extremely dry lips and skin but I was very well hydrated. The issue for me was not enough healthy fats in my diet.
Some people naturally have dry lips. OP, try not to lick your lips especially when out in the wind or cold as it will dry them out. Vaseline helped my dry lips and skin so much.. might be worth a shot.
OP, sounds like you are hydrated. Just ensure you aren't letting yourself get thirsty as that is a sign of dehydration. Even though you drink 12 plus glasses of water a day your body is more hydrated than that due to any coffee/juice/tea/pop you drink along with any food you eat.0 -
Try Lansinoh Lanolin for your lips. It's supposed to be a nipple balm for breastfeeding mothers, but one application lasts about 6-8 hours on me.
A small number of people are allergic, so if you have a wool allergy, don't use it.
Do you feel thirsty, or like you have a dry mouth (subtle difference)? Dry mouth is different and can be treated.0
