Should I Be Worried (Sleep)?

OK, so pretty much all throughout college, grad school, and now my career I have never been a very long sleeper. Maybe 5 hours or so at the most each night. I was one of those people that never had to set my alarm to be up for work in the morning.

I started to notice a change about 2 weeks ago (my fitbit helped). I am now clocking in at 7 and a half hours plus consistently, and have actually had to start setting my alarm to wake up. While I certianly realize that more sleep is probably a good thing for my body, the rather sudden change got me a little concerned.

For the record, I have been on calorie restricted diet for for a little over 2 months and am down 30 pounds. I do intense cardio exercise daily and weight training 3 days a week.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

I am lucky to get 4 or 5 a night, always been like that. I wish I could get 7, the change may be making you sleep, a good thing I think.

Eating less food than you burn..you are using up all your energy.. Would have to know a great deal more about the last 2 months up until two weeks ago.. but unless you have any other side effects, roll with it..

I will buy two of those hours from you for a nice price...LOL :)

Drastic changes in sleep patterns would lead me to call my doctor, not ask an Internet forum.

I love my sleep, but the more I burn, the more I like my sleep. I have noticed I am sleeping harder with less movement when I have a vigorous workout. I get 8 hours a night. I like my 8 hours. I do best at 8 hours, and this changed in my 30's. When I am past 8 hours, I wake up... and then move.

If you're concerned, I would consult your physician. That being said, 7 hours is considered to be in a healthy range, so I don't see it as a problem unless you're not sleeping well for those hours or constantly feeling tired/lethargic when awake.

ETA: Do you feel rested when you wake up?

That's a pretty fast loss in 2 months.

Consider increasing your calories to make that a more slow and steady loss (max 2 pounds a week, less if you are close to your goal/healthy weight), and see if that gets you back to you normal sleeping patterns.
