Isogenix cleanse

Hi All,

I am starting the 9 day Isogenix cleanse. Have you done it? If so, was it successful? Could you do it for the full 9 days?

What is the reasoning behind it? Do you have a clear idea what you want to achieve, will this help you with that, and do you know how to tell when you have achieved what you wanted?

Sorry but you're just going to get posts telling you it's a waste of time and money and pointless doing it, with no answers to your actual questions, just fyi.

You are absolutely right! So let me start...
    OMG!!! it is so expensive!!!! US$214.00 ?! :o I can't even...

Other than that, if you are trying to lose weight, they promise a 7 pound loss... it is certainly possible. But only 1-2 pounds will be fat loss. The rest will probably be water weight and will come back when you resume a normal diet.

I have been struggling with losing weight with diet and exercise. A friend of mine did the cleanse and saw a good deal of weight loss. I figured this will help jump start weight loss and also help cleanse my body of toxins

Water and your liver will help clean your body of toxins. It does it every day.

OK, to lose weight, you need to eat less/move more, and do it consistently. Are you struggling to consistently eat less/move more? If so, address that.

Weight lost by "cleanses" is mainly waste - yes, that is poop.

Jump starts for weight loss is not a thing. See above.

There are no toxins in your body that this stuff will get out. If you need emergency medical treatment, turn off computer and see doctor.

I certainly can't stop you from doing it if your mind is set, but just a couple of things so you're aware:

Cleanses like this don't magically cause you to drop 10 pounds of fat, most of the weight you are going to drop if you go through with this cleanse is water weight, and you'll put it right back on as soon as you start eating normally again (and a lot of people find they yoyo up to an even higher weight post cleanse). Also, you're body doesn't need a "cleanse" to get rid of toxins from the body, if you have fully functioning liver and kidney's your body is cleansing itself just fine.

You'd be better off starting to learn about CICO, and counting calories using this app. It will be a lot more worth your time in the long run.

Kind of like your post? ;)

OP: Isagenix is incredibly expensive and completely unnecessary. What is it that you are cleansing yourself of?

Is this friend also selling the product? That would be a huge red flag for me.

If you have 'toxins' in your body that your kidneys aren't able to deal with all on their own, you need a hospital and not a scam detox. ;)

    And another thing to consider:

As consumers, we believe that you get what you pay for. If something is expensive that means it must be better or they wouldn't be able to charge what they do for it.

With Isagenix, it is precisely that preconception that is being exploited. Please don't fall for it. :)

If you can get your money back, do. Use it to buy yourself something you'll get some mileage and inspiration out of instead, like a new piece of clothing in a size smaller than what you're wearing now. Use that to keep yourself on-track and in the calorie deficit needed to lose the weight. Since you mention that you've been struggling, here's a chart that may help you figure out what needs to be tweaked:

You are currently on medication for Chrons & IBS per your profile? Why the need to do something extreme and totally unnecessary?

Stick to your calorie goal, do this for three weeks solid, you will start trending weight downward.. this is your jump start if you want to call it that...

This stuff you are doing is taking money from your wallet and will not serve one good purpose for your weight loss or health..

I agree if we have toxin build up we all would be seeing our doctors or moreover an ER..

The results come from it being very low calorie (helps put you in a deficit), low carb generally (which depletes glycogen levels) and can contain laxatives (natural herbals) which can help removed digested food and waste. Most of this will be restored after the cleanse.

You appear to be fairly lean (could be wrong) but you may want to take a look at your current strategy to see if it's in line with your goals; particularly current exercise program, calorie/macro goals, and tools for accuracy and tracking (food scale).

    I'll put it this way...

If you were to eat more of the food you normally do, you would gain weight, right? If you were to eat less of the food you normally do than you would lose weight. That is what calorie counting is, pretty simple. n___n

Even if you didn't change what you ate at all, eating a higher quantity would result in more calories. You would gain weight. If you didn't change what you ate at all, but ate a lower quantity of it, you would be taking in less calories, resulting in a deficit & weight loss [unless your regular eating pattern was majorly overeating, where you end up with just slightly less of a surplus instead of a massive one].

You don't need fad cleanses, 'diet supplements', etc. Many are to be used in conjunction with a caloric deficit anyway - it is how slimfast works. You replace a meal with a shake or bar thing. The meal you WOULD have eaten would be higher in calories than one of the bars or shakes, instantly lowering your would-be calorie intake. Etc etc.

My sister in law did isogenix(a friend was selling it and said he lost a lot of weight), followed the program to the letter and ended up gaining 15 pounds within a month after stopping it. I will tell you the same thing I told her before she spent $300+ on it if you exercise consistently and eat at a deficit for a couple months and still don't lose weight go to your doctor. You don't need a cleanse I have tried many of them they don't work. If anything it will be a psychological benefit where you do it then feel like you can workout and eat better because of it. Also consiider that with a cleanse you will go through withdrawal (caffeine, sugar, ect) and you will have to prepare for the headaches and moodswings. It would be best to taper off if you want to decrease those things. So think about how you are going to be able to function going through withdrawal and having diarrhea, is it worth it? I'm not against weight loss products I have ideal shape shakes and bars that I use for convenience and keep a bar in my purse for a snack when I'm out of the house or busy or don't feel like eating but know I should. The only thing that will jumpstart your weight loss is for you to decide you want to lose weight and eat at a deficit and move more. Weight loss takes time and a quick fix is not going to help because when you stop taking the product and gain the weight back it can be demoralizing. Good luck

I know people that have done this...they lose weight...then they immediately gain it back when they start eating real food again...there are no magic fixes.

Did it. Lost about 6lbs in a week. Put it back on immediately after restarting normal eating.

    It is:
    - An unsustainable way of eating (or living at all really)
    - A glorified whey protein powder
    - Just a low calorie diet. I remember logging it and thinking that I might as well be eating real food
    - A multi level marketing scheme: average products, selling the dream and making lots from it (at the top only)
    - An unnecessary expense
    - Not going to teach you anything about the lifestyle changes which are necessary to be healthier and happier
    - Just unpleasant tbh....tastes artifical, makes you do crappy fast days, makes your meals the subject of ridicule etc
    - Unnecessary. CICO will get you to where you need to be, with a healthy dose of patience

with your medical conditions i would be wary of doing this

i have a few friends with chrones and they gain a lot of water weight. be aware of your sodium intake. drink lots of water. and try cranberry juice, a natural diuretic. (if this is your case, as well)

Yes, if you have Crohn's and IBS you really need to be speaking to your doctor before taking something that contains laxatives - or starting any new diet, really.

With crohn's and ibs why would you go near anything with laxatives unless they are absolutely necessary? I would never put my already delicate gi system at risk for a stupid crash diet.
