There is no way a message board can diagnose you. As others have mentioned, please see a doctor.

Depending on how much you eat and workout, my first guess would be the obvious one (lots of people on mfp do not eat nearly enough) - over exercising and undereating cause a loss of periods. If this is what is going on, it is not good.

I would talk to your GYNO DR.... You don't want to damage your baby maker. Just talk to her, maybe she will have some ideas for you.

Sounds like you are going through what happened to me. I started MFP last spring 2012 to get ready for my sister's Aug. 2012 wedding. I went from 134 to 125. My period stopped for 6 months! As I look back at my diary and exercise, I was overexercising and not eating enough, and my body let me know. I went to the dr. got extensive bloodwork done, gyno sent my labs to and endocrinologist, etc. I was not ovulating. I kept referring to the weight I had lost, but she kept saying "no, that's not it". So I backed off on the exercise, ate more, gained back about 7 lbs, and my period finally came back.
I suspect you need to take more rest days and start eating more.
Your body is screaming at you. Listen to it.
  • Wow- I am feeling incredibly nervous about these responses: cancer, cysts, etc. I did not realize it was this serious. I am 21 years old so I should be regular at this point considering I have had my period since I was 14 (it has very rarely ever been "regular," it just kind of comes and goes...

Good go to the doctor. Personal question, and you dont have to answer have you ever gone to a gynecologist?

No, I have not been to a gynecologist, yet! And for those curious, I also eat 1540 calories a day PLUS exercise calories (putting me at a minimum of 1540 calories per day and up to 2000). I also workout 5-6 days a week with cardio for 30-45 minutes per day.

    Please contact your gynecologist immediately.
It could be your thyroid or it could be something very serious.
Not to freak you out, but seriously.

Interestingly enough i've noticed my period which was always regular becomes much more sporadic since I really started to loose weight, i'm going into week 8 now and still have not got it when it used to always be every 4. This is the third time this is happening now, i generally did think it was down to the weight loss and over exercising cause it seems to have started since i started and completed the 30 day shred but i've booked an appointment with my doctor this week just incase, i know this will hell me and ease the worry cause that will only add to the problem. Talk to your doctor, it will definitely help. :)
  • Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I VERY rarely take rest days, I took 3 rest days this week which is beyond normal. I generally do cardio 5-7 days a week for 30-45 minutes. Do you think exercising is causing this?

It may or may not be.

Please let me add to the chorus that tells you to please see a doctor!

Like has been said repeatedly, a forum cannot tell you for sure why your periods have ceased. It could be any number of reasons and some of them very serious! I, too, don't mean to scare you but they do need to be ruled out!

I know it's scary to see a gyn for the first time. Have you got anyone who could go with you? Or maybe go to your family doctor to see what s/he has to say and take it from there.

Please do NOT leave this 'diagnosis' to a bunch of non professionals on any Internet forum!

Thank you everyone for thought out comments and encouragement to see a doctor. I will work on scheduling an appointment. Seriously, I appreciate the fact that you all took the time to respond. :)
