Portion Size Question

I worked for 20 years in the poultry industry, and to me "chicken breast" means the entire breast. My question is what does chicken breast mean in the MFP database? Boneless, skinless breast - is it the whole breast, or just half? So, if I buy a package of boned breast from Costco and eat half of one piece, is that a quarter of a breast? Aaaarrrrghhhh!

4oz is a typical portion for chicken. Only your food scale can tell you exactly how much of the breast that would be (approx the size of a deck of cards)0

Unfortunately like everything else our chickens have been supersized so a chicken breast is usually larger than 4oz.0

Use an option from the food list that tells you the weight- i.e. 4 oz or 100 grams. weigh your food and adjust as needed.0

If I buy a package of boneless chicken breasts and it is in 4 pieces and weighs 1 pound, then each piece is approximately a quarter pound or 4 ounces. But to be certain, use a food scale.0

I will start using a different chicken breast option in the MFP database. The one I've been using simply says "breast, boneless, skinless" and the portion is 1.0 breast. I'm pretty sure, since my husband and I split one piece, we are eating approx 4 oz.
Thanks for the help. :happy:0 -

yeah, definitely want to get a food scale and user another entry. Depending on the size of the chicken, type of chicken, etc.. you could be eating twice as much as you think.0 -

Sadly, we must weigh and measure things like this. Usually the MFP database has an option with a weight...0
