Looking for a wild treat!?

I am a firm believer that healthy, natural foods should be available to all people at little or no expense. One way you can obtain healthy foods for free, like this wild strawberry, is to know where you can find them in nature.

Wild strawberries grow in the regions colored with light green. They are small and grow low to the ground. They are often found throughout fields, meadows, and forests. The fruit is sweet with a little crunch, and although it grows best in areas with open sun, it can also tolerate a lot of shade. They can be harvested any time from May to late October depending on your region and how warm it is. I would suggest trying to find some of the last ones if you can!

The fruit has been eaten by Native Americans for a long time, and is either eaten raw, dried out, or cooked. Leaves are also known to work well as teas. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, potassium, folate, and fiber.

I noticed ours are fruiting again. I find the most in the spring, but there are a few out there now. Yum!
