How about taking a rest during work? Does that count?

Here's the deal. I have a desk job - on my *kitten* for the better part of 8 hours. And though I do walk around every hour and go up and down stairs to stay somewhat active, I'm still pretty sedentary. However, that may not be such a bad thing considering what I'm putting my body through after hours. Or I may be wrong - what say you?

I am currently on day 3 of 30 Day Shred. I use 5 pound weights. But I also started an HLM routine 3 x per week and have been doing total body lifting for 8 weeks now. And my quads and glutes are feeling it. Right now I think I'm okay. But my husband seems to think I'm not giving some of my more used muscles (shoulders, legs) adequate rest...especially now that I'm bundling these 2 programs.

I've read that it's okay to do both since 30 DS is more conditioning. However when she does do her strength circuit, I feel it more on the day I've already lifted.

So should I remain on my *kitten* at work so I can get some type of rest? Or is what I'm doing a-okay? Thoughts and opinions welcomed...:flowerforyou:

You're just walking around at work. That's not exactly strenuous.

Like the other poster said, you're fine.

I guess my question was a bit inaccurate. I should have asked, is my routine okay without rest days? I know we all need rest but I figured my rest would be at work (and when I sleep obviously).

Yeah. I don't even really know why you're doing it. You said you're doing a heavy lifting program 3x a week? That's where the magic happens.

    you work out every day?

and you mention total body lifting and you are you lifting heavy?

you can work out every day if you want to, BUT taking a rest day will rest your CNS which is always good for you. It allows you to recharge fully

    CNS is central nervous system...

    it's really up to you.

I'm not being *****y, but if you feel you can work out every day and aren't over sore or over tired then you probably aren't pushing yourself enough to need a rest day

however if you are sore and tired...then yes you need a rest day...

I'm doing an HLM routine 3 x per week. I figured I'd throw 30 DS into the mix since I've seen amazing results from others.

Hmm...I'm of the mind that DOMS doesn't dictate whether you're pushing hard or not. I think I'm doing fine. Not totally unsore...just a good amount of it :)

I think you are doing great. 30D shred is suppose to be 30 days. The lifting and all is only 3x a week, so you have rest. Always walk, you don't need rest days for that.

Keep it up and listen to your body. It will tell you if it needs a rest day. I know my body just shut down. I had no energy, was very lethargic, and my heart rate wouldn't recover very quickly. I took a couple days off and was back to normal. I do spinning 4x a week, weights and swimming 6x a week.

Well, if you don't feel it impacts your lifting then it won't hurt. *shrugs*

no I didn't say DOMS....i said if you are working out and aren't over sore and over tired....basically, if you aren't working your body to the point where you can't function and you are too tired, and too sore then a rest day is probably not a big deal, helpful as it's always helpful to take rest days, but that is up to you...

however if you are too tired and too sore..then yes...you should be resting because your body is telling you something...like you need less expenditure or more cals....the offset is out of whack.

i use a wheelchair to get around at work for precisely this reason. don't want to risk overtraining. some days i don't even risk sitting up straight in my chair. i just lie prone on the floor beneath my desk. can't be too careful

I prefer a HHH routine 3x per week but if it's working for you, keep doing what you're doing
