If I do this can I drop some fat?

I am 6'2 and about 250lbs. If I do a daily caloric deficit of 500, ran the treadmill an hour a day, and drank plenty of water would the fat come off?

I think you should add some regular walking, 45 minutes. TREADMILLS are not as effective as you might think. losing 2 lbs. Per week should be maximum if you want to keep it off.

Treadmills are very effective for helping people get their heart rate up and burn some calories, which are a couple of the reasons people do cardio. It's also a very safe method to do both of those for people who only have time for cardio when it's dark or for people who live in places that get extreme weather.

As the two ladies above stated weight loss comes down to eating at a deficit. Cardio is great for the heart and lungs. Resistance training of some sort is great for retaining muscle and improving bone health. You can lose weight without any exercise if you are eating at a deficit.

The only thing you need from that list is the calorie deficit. Treadmills are just fine for exercise, some people simply don't like them.

Walking burns much less calories than running. While running outside is probably much more interesting, running on a treadmill is better for heart, lungs and blood vessels than just walking. And for calories:
running: distance * weight * 0.64 (approx, miles and lbs)
walking: distance * weight * 0.3 (approx, miles and lbs)

whats your logic for suggesting a smaller amount of walking instead of running?

Yes, OP, if you're in a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

Start with eating good food in caloric deficit, doesn't have to be -500 cals daily. Ease into it with -200cals and increase deficit with each week, but don't go lower than your BMR. Reason for slower weight loss is simply avoiding any loose skin or stretchmarks. When you hit the plateau will be the time to introduce exercise.
