Took my "before" photo today.

What a wake up call.

Since July 1 I've been eating better, religiously MFP tracking, working out more and totally abstaining from alcohol, and was starting to feel a little better in my skin already...until I had to confront the mirror reflection of myself in my underwear this morning.

I can only imagine what I looked like a month or so ago before I decided to do something about my muffin top. Until last week I hadn't weighed myself in over 4 years and was shocked to discover I have 10kgs (22lbs) to lose before I'm back to where I was happiest. I've never been this heavy in my life.

Not sure if taking the "before" shot is motivating or just plain depressing, but I'm going to keep at it and hopefully see some real results before my 40th birthday in October.

This is hard!

  • it'll be motivation in the end...

I remember my wake up call in 2009 - my good friend was getting married and we were bridemaid dress shopping -

Bridesmaid (work friend) - size 6
    Bridesmaid (sister) - size 2
Maid of honor (that's me!) - SIZE 12

It took me another year to come to terms with it, and I dropped a bunch of weight between 2010 & 2011, then got sick and it started going back up... Came back here at 142 and now i'm 124 and feeling much better in my own skin (thinking about buying a bikini even!)

10 kg isn't too bad, that's about how much I have to lose to get to goal too! And i've only been back at this for 4 months. You can do it!

I did this too and now try to weigh myself every two weeks. Remember to find a piece of clothing and use that as a guide also. I now fit my teenage daughters size 10 jeans and use these as a gauge as well.
Oh, and hi to a Masterton girl. I am originally from Lower Hutt

You will be happy you took it. We are all much harder on ourselves than we need to be and I am sure you look just fine even if you are not happy with it.

Just stick with a nice healthy plan and dont be so hard on yourself. In a couple months you will have some great progress to show for it.

    Good luck.

    Hi back!

I'm actually a Karori Kid, moved here 3yrs ago.

My guide clothes will include the lovely red lacey undies I wore for today's pic...they have potential to look SO good! My jeans are already feeling a little looser but it was a shock to see it all hanging out this morning, and then to capture it digitally just seemed so WRONG!

    :ohwell:

Appreciate your words of encouragement. To be honest I think I still look pretty decent with my clothes on (I've always been good at dressing for my size/shape and I think folks would be amazed to know what I actually weigh)...but those lumps and bumps I saw this morning have no business being there!

Congrats on starting the journey. I did not take a before photo but I found some. I turned 40 last October and that was my wake up call. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can encourage one another.:drinker:

Oh my...I remember my before picture. It haunted me for MONTHS. Just know that you will NEVER look like that again. At first, i think it can be depressing/shocking...but once you get a few progress pics to compare it to - it will be very motivational.

This is the bit I have to focus on. If only I could go to sleep and wake up in 3 or 4 weeks to see how much my hard work has paid off! Painfully slow progress at the moment...but I know I've only been doing it for a short time.
