Menopause and losing weight

Menopausal ladies of MFP,
My doctor has attributed my weight gain to menopause (I had a total hysterectomy). I'm finding it much more difficult to lose weight now.
Did you have a harder time losing weight after menopause? What have you done to combat it?

I had no trouble losing weight after menopause, because I finally figured out that losing weight was really just a matter of accurately logging my food intake and assessing my activity levels.
I'm 54 years old and I haven't been the weight I am now since I was in elementary school.
I lost 70 pounds of the 93 I've lost in my first year of dieting, all by weighing my solid foods and measuring my liquids, and logging accurately.
Counting calories works.
I even have a bad thyroid on top of things. None of it mattered.8 -
I followed the calorie guideline given to me by MFP (I did tweak the macros a bit) and lost the expected amount of weight per week. You need to be honest and meticulous with tracking food, but it can be done. Get as much exercise as you can (walking is great). It's all about those calories.3

I admit i attributed my not being able to lose weight to post menopause because i ate healthy...chicken & veggies. No pasta, bread, potatoes, hardly ever ate fast or fried foods. Don't drink soda, lots of water but since i started this, i eat bread & potatoes every day & lost 22lbs so far from weighing my foods. you can do it3

Exactly what everyone else has said. I used all sorts of excuses. Down 48 pounds since January 5th, I reached my goal weight in July and now just losing a few vanity pounds to try to get rid of a little extra belly. It's easy once you get your mind on board to do this. Follow some of the successful people on here, their advise is spot on. Good luck to you.2

Yeah, it got harder after menopause.
I found that I have to subtract about 200 calories from what I used to eat. I could maintain on 2000-2100, and now I have to stick to 1800. And I could lose on 1500-1600 before age 50, and now I have to drop my intake to 1300-1400 in order to shed a few lbs.
I have also found that I don't tolerate or enjoy dairy and animal protein as much as I used to, so have them much less often and in much smaller portions. I focus on lots of fresh and filling veggies-- high fiber, low carb. Love me some fish and legumes!0 -
I'm 60 and have had no trouble losing weight by following MFP daily calorie allowance. I also exercise an hour per day for my fitness goals. The weight I gained had nothing to do with menopause; I went on a 10 month pigout and gained 40 lbs. One day I decided to lose it and so far I've shed 34 of the 42 lbs. Put your mind to it; weigh and log accurately; and you'll lose it, too.1
