Hello so far in to my journey I've lost around 2.5 - 3 stone in 4 months, mostly just through nutrition , completely changing my diet. I'm going away in 7 weeks and I'm aiming to loose 1.5 stone by then. But adding in the gym 5 days a week to my diet, can you recommend what I need to do in the gym? What the best machines are for weightloss ect. I'm 5ft 11 and weigh 18.4 stone. Just trying to be as active as possible now. I had sciatica a while ago so which was an awful experience. I'm abit hesitant. :#

I feel like the free weights/dumbbells and barbells are better than machines... I like to do a nice full body workout with weights, core work, squats, etc for about 1 hour 3 times a week. The other days I do hiit cardio for about 35 minutes. I have about 2 rest days a week where I do nothing or maybe just go for a walk.

Maybe think about getting a personal trainer to help you start off in the gym. Or look on bodybuilding.com for a beginners program and watch the videos they have to show you how to do each exercise with proper form.

Just know that whatever exercise you do, you may retain water that masks fat loss for a bit. It is water to repair the muscles being used in a new way.

That being said, I agree with the above poster that free weights are the best. Find a structured lifting program and follow it. Don't make up your own lifting workout.

You can also do bodyweight work if lifting weights is not for you.

If you want to do cardio, then pick whatever form you find the most enjoyable.

I used to love doing classes. Zumba, step aerobics, kick boxing, Yoga... But I've had a hard time fitting in the current schedule and find that working out solo is relaxing because I can jam out to my own music.

I switch it up. Tonight was cardio. 25 minutes on stationary bike. 10 minutes on treadmill at 3.0 and 5 minutes at 3.5.

Last night took a 20 minute walk with my dog and kiddo and did some squats afterwards.

Day before i did a little cardio followed by weight machines. Calf lifts, leg press, biceps, triceps, abs... If I do the same thing I get bored.

Tomorrow will be similar to the last example I posted.

I think you should do things you enjoy!
