Looking for a good Horror Movie

    My husband and I love the type of movies where its more eerie that gore. Lately we watched a lot. So here goes:

    Unborn
    Lady in Black
    Dark Skies
    Devil Inside


    Others have been mentioned that we watched. Cabin in the Woods was crap. Sorry but it was. Saw movies are hack em up there really isnt much imagination. Same with Texas Chain Saw. After the first one you've seen them all.

    There are a lot of good ones mentioned here.

    I would recommend May.

    It is kinda bloody, but it's more of a psych-you-out film. :D

    I love horror movies....
    Cabin in the Woods(loved it, but as others have said, not really a horror movie)
    The Audition(foreign film but wow)
    Human Centipede was just a waste of time IMO
    The Orphanage
    Woman in Black(not totally a horror film but liked it)
    Antichrist is...disturbing to say the least
    The foreign vision of the Eye and the Eye 2 are really good. The second one isn't really that scary but I loved the story.

    I'm DYING to see the Conjuring (Comes out this weekend I think).

    I agree about the Grudge too - way creepy! That boy's scream still echos' in my head.....

    I know these are stupid but I still liked them:
    Chuckys - they cracked me up
    Hellraisers - just flat out gross
    The Omen - SO creepy!

    A movie I very much recommend is REC. The American remake is known as Quarantine, but I've seen both flicks and I can guarantee REC is far superior. It's a Spanish film, so if you don't mind subtitles then definitely give it a try. I'd also like to second someone's suggestion of 28 Days Later. It's one of my top picks for horror movies.

    Other titles worth a look:

    The Evil Dead (I found both the original and the remake to be exceptional)
    Jeepers Creepers
    Tremors (magnificent if you're into creature flicks, but kind of silly)
    Thir13en Ghosts
    Chakushin ari (aka the original Japanese One Missed Call)
    The Fog (both the original and the remake are fantastic)
    Psycho (everyone should know this one)
    Final Destination (I also enjoyed all of its sequels)
    Shutter (Thai original)
    Case 39

    Also, a good way to look up horror movies by year is Wikipedia. I'm sure you could find even more things to check out there. c:

    Women in black made me cry and i left the theater 15 min before it ended and could not make myself go back in there

    5: re make of nightmare on elm street, its actually REALLY good
    6: chain letter
    7: the haunting in connicate- based on a true story
    8: the reef - Aussie shark movie, based on a true story
    9: wrong turn all of them
    10: orphan - weirdest twist
    11: the devil inside
    12: cabin fever (number 1, number 2 is crap)
    13: triangle- massive trip out
    14: 1408- more of a thriller, but really good
    15: vacency
    16: THE COLLECTION this ones real hectic
    17: the lovely bones - not really a horror movie, but really good
    18: house at the end of the street (real freaky twist)
    19: TUNNEL this is also aussie, based on a true story, one of the best horror movies ive seen
    20: carriers.

    and from experence.. DONT watch the human centerpiede hahaha, i refuse to watch the 2nd after the first.. u will regret it.

    also, cabin in the woods is the WORSE horror movie ive ever seen.

    I am a Freddy Fanatic. I haven't been able to watch the new one only because i LOVE Robert Englund.

    I have to second this, Robert Englund is and always will be the only Freddy to me, I saw the newer Nightmare On Elm Street and it just isn't the same, the new Freddy just isn't as scary, Robert Englund was incredible, that face and his voice were perfection!

    I don't like blood & guts movies either... These are some of my favorite spooky/supernatural/gets-you-thinking movies.
    The Orphanage

    One of the best movies I've ever seen. After 5+ viewings, it still chills me to the bone.
    The Cabin in the Woods is awesome and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

    ^Agree 1000% TBH I'm shocked at the number of people who hate this movie.. Different strokes, I guess. It's really witty and satirical, and pokes fun at the whole scary movie genre while giving the viewers a few thrills. Just a smart, creative horror-comedy.

    And finally: Drag Me to Hell. Another mix of humor-horror, but believe me, you will jump (and if you're a baby like me - scream!)

    Cabin in the woods was awesome!

    The Cabin in the Woods is awesome and I enjoyed the hell out of it. (It's satirical horror, not so much scary as hilarious... I haven't yet met a person who didn't love it).
    Are you serious? Cabin in the woods is the worst film i have ever seen
    I sooo much hated that movie
    they ruined it after about 15 minutes by taking all the scare out of it. not that it looked particularly scary anyway.

    It's not supposed to be legitimately frightening; it pokes fun at horror-movie stereotypes. I had a great time watching it, but everyone approaches the horror genre differently and we all want different things from our movies. And that's fine. :-)

    I couldn't agree more. I am still creeper out by The Strangers and I saw that movie years ago.

    Really good ones I liked were -The Marsh,Insidious,Boo,Rose Red,Diary of Ellen Rimbauer,Haunting of Whaley House,1408,Amityville,What Lies Beneath,The Others,The Haunting,Gacy House,wicked little things,Intruders,ATM,The Haunting of Winchester House,Orphan,The Ward,Session 9,A Haunting in Salem,The Skeleton Key,Dark Fields,Sinister theres more good ones we have watched but these are the ones I remembered off hand.....I really liked The Marsh one that one is good if you like the more creepy less gory types of films that are more realistic. Forest Whitaker is in that one and is awesome actor....made my husband jump a few times watching that one.

    The Conjuring was one of the better horror movies ive seen in years. nothing scares me (seeing the Exorcist at age 11 by myself set the bar pretty high- scared the *kitten* out of me) but ive thought very few horror movies over the years have been truly good. This movie is on par or better than the Ring, which I thought was pretty damn creepy.

    I personally didn't find Sinister that frightening, but most reviewers/my friends felt otherwise, so you could give that one a whirl.

    haha that movie was great.. I heard a theory somewhere that the "gods" were a metaphor for the viewers and if things didn't happen the way we wanted them to, we'd give the movie bad reviews :P

    The Evil Dead remake is pretty creepy... I actually had trouble sleeping after I watched it.

    I loved Evil Dead remake and original. I hope they make a sequel. I like most horor movies though. I work nights so when I am off thats what I do at night, after I work out of course.

    I love horror movies but also do not particularly care for violence and gore.

    Cabin in the Woods is every horror movie ever made, all wrapped into one package with a healthy dose of intellectual satire. It's AMAZING (but not if you're just looking for scares).

    Movies I thought were actually spooky:
    --Ju-On (The Japanese movie that Hollywood ruined with The Grudge)
    --The Ring (For once, I thought the Hollywood version was better; the Japanese version explained more of the story, but I couldn't get over how FUNNY the visuals were. In this single instance, Hollywood special effects won.)
    --Mama (This doesn't have the lasting scares of "Oh God, I will never sleep again" but it's pretty dang scary
    --Vacancy (I'm not usually one for slasher films, but this is scary because the main characters, for once, are not STUPID.)
    --The Strangers

    Horror movies that have awesome visuals/atmosphere:
    --Silent Hill
    --El Orfanato
    --Insidious

    I didn't think Woman in Black was remotely scary. Dead Silence was fun if you think Ventriloquist dolls are creepy.

    I have other suggestions if you're into the type of movie that just leaves you feeling uneasy and nervous, rather than making you outright scared.
