Why is it important to never eat below 1200 calories per day? What happens if you dont? Sometimes I eat around 1000 calories only. is it bad ?

The net for women on mfp is actually 1000 (food and exercise calories earned). For men it's 1200 net.
Somebody decided that that was the minimum to get adequate nutrition and energy so that you don't have other health symptoms like malnutrition.0 -

That's just the point at which MFP warns that one isn't eating enough. The minimum intake given is 1200 and 1500.
One day once in a while at low calories won't do any harm, or if you happen to be shorter, older, and more sedentary. It's when it's done consistently that a person runs the risk of muscle loss, hair loss, hormone imbalance, and other health issues that come from inadequate nutrition.0 -

No it is not 1000 and 1200. The minimum recommendation is 1200 and 1500. You are correct that it is to ensure adequate nutrition.

I've mentioned this in the past, but if you follow the link from http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1375583-a-message-about-myfitnesspal-s-updated-nutrition-goals to the NIH guideline that it says it's using, the guidelines actually sayA patient may choose a diet of 1,000 to 1,200 kcal/day for women and 1,200 to 1,500 kcal/day for men
so I don't know why people/MFP insist on 1200 either.
ETA: It amuses me no end that that was post number 1200 from me :-D2
