Hi there
I've been reading on all the blog forums that that meals should go from larger to small throughout the day (breakfast like a king lunch like a prince dinner like a poor man... etc.) read this somewhere even though it's slightly culturally insensitive I understand the basic principle. So my problem!
My hubby and I connect over dinner that's our thing after a long day at work and I really can't imagine not cooking together because I need to have a shake or something... I've tried eating very light throughout the day to mitigate it but it's not sustainable. Is there some way of counting my calories or planning meals that would work for this type of lifestyle?
He likes his carbs and fat which I have less of or just not eat but it's only the two of us so how do I make it work? He's also a big snacker which usually leaves me joining and I need some more discipline! Help! :)

Meal timing is irrelevant for weight loss.

Don't read blogs for scientific information.

I have the majority of my cals in the evening. My days are usually:
    Breakfast 250-350
    Lunch 400-600
    Snack 200
    Dinner 600-800
    Wine/dessert 250-450

I lost weight eating this way and am currently maintaining.

I don't always eat every thing my hubby eats. I pick what I want that he had in smaller portions. And add a large amount of vegetables to fill me up.
    Good luck

The whole "breakfast like a king lunch like a prince dinner like a poor man... etc." thing is just one method of eating. You can definitely have dinner be your biggest meal instead of breakfast. As long as you stay in a deficit, you'll be fine.
During both weight loss and maintenance, I've alternated between bigger and smaller breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks, and none of it has affected my weight management.

It doesn't matter for weight loss if you eat all of your calories in one meal at 8 PM or 12 meals spread out through the day.
Do what works for your lifestyle and function.
I eat 100-300 calorie breakfast, 400-500 calorie lunch, 500- 600 calorie dinner and 100-300 calorie afternoon/evening snacks a day. I plan out my day. I don't have to eat everything my dh does.

Stop reading all the blog forums :#

There is no basic principle. I't just to a way to possibly reduce overall calorie intake, by make eating/overeating more difficult.

My hubby and I connect over dinner that's our thing after a long day at work and I really can't imagine not cooking together because I need to have a shake or something... I've tried eating very light throughout the day to mitigate it but it's not sustainable.
    As you have found out...

Is there some way of counting my calories or planning meals that would work for this type of lifestyle?
I think it's better to find a lifestyle that fits you, than for you to try to fit into a random lifestyle. This isn't even a lifestyle, it's an old saying.

He likes his carbs and fat which I have less of or just not eat but it's only the two of us so how do I make it work? He's also a big snacker which usually leaves me joining and I need some more discipline!
You have to build an eating structure that fits you. You will know that it fits you because you will want to stick to it. If you need discipline to stick to it, it means it doesn't fit you.
