Feeling desperate and out-of-control. Please help me.

Do any of you struggle with not eating the junkier foods that you buy for your family? When I was single, I only brought 'clean' foods into the house, and managed my weight that way. I have absolutely no self-control around food it seems, but I can't deny my family normal food choices just because I have food issues. HOW DO PEOPLE MANAGE THIS SITUATION. I am just constantly gaining weight, discarding clothes that no longer fit....It's terrifying. I'm classed as, I think obese--approaching morbidly obese.

I had a huge issue with snacking. I also realized that the foods I stocked the pantry with for the family were actually not really good choices for them either. Instead of going cold turkey for everyone we just slowly phased out the worst of the junk. Raisins or dried fruit instead of fruit snacks, crackers instead of potato chips, carrots and celery with dill dip, and fruit fruit fruit. I also intentionally buy the snacks that I don't like so I'm not tempted!

Otherwise maybe build more snack calories into your day. Have smaller meals so the snacks don't totally derail you.

A tip I used to do was measure out pre-calorie snacks so I could visually see what I was consuming. Sometimes I would eat it, or sometimes I would realize I could have a greater volume of something like vegetables. For me, it was a better option because I'm a grazer. Seeing the visual amount put it in perspective of how little a serving was for the calories.
  • I am right there with you . Lately I felt as though I was spiraling out of control and literally would eat myself to death. I'm glad we have realized this is a problem and want to make changes. Some good snacks that I have found are yogurt covered raisins and banana chips. Those seem to satisfy my "sweet" cravings.
