Midfoot bump in Merrell Road Gloves

Does anyone else use Merrell Road Gloves? I ordered mine online based on the great reviews (and the fact that I couldn't find women's Vapor Gloves anywhere), and I was aware that there was a weird midfoot bump.

I have flat feet, and for me, the bump feels HUGE and actually throws off my weight distribution when I am standing or walking, like a rocker in the middle of the shoe.

Does this bump actually get flattened down over time, or when people say "it went away" after a few runs mean that they stopped noticing it?

My husband LOVES his. You may need to break them in as they are minimus shoes. Minimus shoes need to be broke in. NEED TO BE. Seriously.

I am making myself wear them all day just walking around in hopes that my body weight will eventually crush the bump over time. Hahaha.

Xero Shoes (huaraches) don't need any breaking in! ;)

I have those shoes...mid foot bump? Do you mean the high arch? I dont see it going away, that's how the shoes are built. It's probably that the people stopped noticing it.

"Break in" in the wrong term to use. Minimal shoes don't need "broken in" at all. There's nothing to "break in", however, your feet/legs need time to adjust to having no support and develope the muscles/tendons that have not been used much.
  • Ah, darn. Yes, the high arch. I am ironically accustomed to more minimal feeling shoes. Than these. I will give them a chance to see if I too can grow accustomed (despite the form not being comparable to the form of my foot). Maybe they can still work out for running. I will look harder for a pair of Vapor Gloves, which by all accounts has no bump whatsoever.
  • Update: I tried tying these up quite loosely, and that makes the bump hardly detectable despite my low arch. Wore these around all weekend including a few runs, one of which was about 10K, without any issues.
