Learning to ski as an adult

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone learned to ski from absolute beginner as an adult? Maybe you could share your experience with me? We are going to Lapland (Finland) in December and have a nice ski-free trip planned so it wouldn't ruin the trip but can't decide whether or not I want to take the plunge and learn to ski (thinking of getting lessons). I'm quite nervous in the snow as it is but I also do get quite adventurous when we travel and usually surprise myself.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

It definitely can be done. I learned to snowboard at 21 (very painful) and to ski at 35 (piece of cake after snowboarding). My advice: have lessons, one-on-one is best. Have a lesson in the morning and play/practise in the afternoon, repeat for three days or until you feel comfortable That you have the correct technique sussed. It'll make the whole thing so much easier, more fun and a lot less painful. Expensive, yes, but worth it in my book. However, if you don't have any hopes of skiing on a regular basis over the coming years, it's probably not worth it.
