Fat loss is governed by your calorie balance, meaning that you must ingest fewer calories of food/drink than you burn in order to keep a calorie deficit. It is not affected by the specific foods you eat as long as you have a calorie deficit. Eating cake and biscuits does not cause fat gain. Eating too much food overall causes fat gain.1

For long term success at weight loss it's important to get rid of the "bad" food concept ASAP. Food is only bad if it is spoiled or makes you sick. If you feel "badly" for eating cake and biscuits you're setting yourself up for a bad relationship with food in general. Only eating too much cake or too much of anything will cause weight gain.0
