Extensor tendinitis

I'm a relatively new runner. Finished the c25k program and am now working on the 10k program. Last run was about 5 days ago after which the top of my left foot became sore. Google research has led me to believe it's inflammation of the tendons in that area. Other than ice/ibuprofen (which tbh I haven't been doing as it seemed like that would lessen the pain without increasing the healing but of course I could be way off base with that thinking) I haven't found information on ways to help it heal or on how long I can expect this issue to last. It now has a feeling almost like I'm stretching an elastic band when I move my toes up and down and is only a little painful when I lift them up as far as I can.
Is this cause to see a Doctor or should I just wait it out?
I'm eager to get back out running but do not want to exacerbate the problem.
TIA

Take a few days off. Then try an insert. Sometimes just changing the way the tendons are loaded can allow them to recover from a tendonitis. If, upon resting, the pain narrows down to a very discrete spot, you may have a stress fracture .0
