Measure yourself before as it will give you a baseline. A 3 day full body routine with compound lifts is great for beginners.

You will probably see the scale go up for the first few weeks. DO NOT PANIC!!! This will be your body holding on to water weight due to the new exercise. Don't forget that your calorie deficit is all that causes you to lose weight but the lifting will help your body composition.

Don't exercise the same muscle from one day to the next. It has to rest and recover and grow stronger. That's the process.

Anyways, two or three times a week. Rest in between, or do cardio on those days.

Good luck! Lifting weights is one of the best things you can do for yourself, IMO.

How exciting for you, best of luck! Use your time with your trainer to discuss a program (what exercises to do and how many days/week). You're spending the money so get the most out of it! I personally lift 5 days/week, focusing on a different body part each week, but other do 3 days or 4 days. I think it comes down to personal preference and also how often you can get to the gym.
