I am sure this has been asked before but I can't find it.... if I put in that I am lightly active AND I use a Fitbit am I cheating myself since it already has me at a higher caloric intake?

No it's not cheating. It just means you'll have to move more before you start getting positive adjustments and you will also get calories taken away if you fall below the lightly active level. There are people here who have themselves set at highly active and also have their fitbits synced.
Just make sure you enable negative adjustments incase you have a lazy day.0 -
I think the best course of action is to set MFP to sedentary and link up your fitbit.2

This is what I personally do, and I manage my weight quite well doing this. I use Fitbit to add on exercise calories and MFP to log food. Handy tip: only eat up to FitBit's predicted total calories for the day. MFP changes and adjusts the total leftover calories you have for the day based on how active it thinks you'll be for the rest of the day while FitBit has a set calculated total based on how active you have ALREADY been in the day.3 -
I've found that my Fitbit far overestimates my calories burnt. I found a Fitbit entry in the food database & put in half my fitbit calories burnt as an adjustment, but even that may not be sufficient. Try and find a ratio that works for you.2

Pretty much this. I had FitBit set to lose 1 lbs. per week, and I ended up gaining almost 2 per week. That's one hell of a discrepancy, and I assure you, it won't happen again.1
