When you don't have much to lose, loss will be slow. Aiming for 1/2 to 1 pound per week is better at your weight, because it will give you a bigger calorie allowance, which will be easier to stick to, and it's the sticking to it that determinines whether you'll succeed or not.

Weight fluctuates normally and naturally from day to day, and you can't really see a real trend before a month has passed. Exercise often makes your body retain water for muscle repair, and water has weight.

You can eat anything you like, but log it and stay within your calorie goal.

Losing that nightly chocolate bar is an excellent idea, but why not go a bit further and take a 15 minute walk instead of having that chocolate treat? Your walking commute is also a fantastic foundation to build on. I find that there is so much more value if one speeds up a little if one is not already getting the heart pumping faster than normal. If you find that doing that on the way to work makes you arrive in a bit of a sweat, why not try it on the way home?

We all have different reasons and motivations to lose weight, but doing exercise works for me. If I have been out for a brisk walk, then I have stronger resolve when it comes to cutting out the snacks. To me it seems a waste of my time to ruin a walk by negating the benefit with more calories.

    1. A pound a week is a good pace. Anything more than that, you might feel too deprived and rage quit.
    2. Log everything, every day.
    3. Buy a food scale, weigh what you can.
    4. Weight loss is 90% food, 10% exercise.
    5. This is a journey, not a race.

    Good luck!
