I have been sick on and off for two weeks.... My weight went down to 214ish then within days I think due to salt back up to 219.8 then in a couple days down to 215.2 again? Then at the dr I was 221! I almost cried. Although I had my wallet, boots and sweater on. I went back on the scale today and checked it twice and it said 206.0! Wtheck is going on? I am sick with a fever and nausea so I haven't eaten today because I feel like crap...so maybe some is dehydration but I doubt it is 13lbs of dehydration. The 219.8 weight was taken on November 6th and its only been 9 days. Today, my weight is 206.0. The scale works fine. I tested it on my kids recently and tried it in two spots today. Some might be from not eating today, but it still seems like a heck of a big difference. What do you think is happening? Should I ask my dr about this? On normal days I drink a lot of water. Today I can't even stomach that much at all but usually its more than most because I dont like to drink other things.

I understand that but even then 13lbs in 9 days seems very excessive (same scale)? and even with the excess weight at the dr with my wallet and boots 221 - 206 seems strange in one day. I know their scale can be different true...but usually it has weighed the same as mine at home. Unless maybe they can change or recalibrate it? Both are digital. Also, I do not exercise because my ankle has been bothering me (had surgery this year). Not often are people worried about too much weight lost but I find it a bit concerning.

www.weightgrapher.com (set your goal to maintain even if your goal is to lose); happy scale iPhone; Libra Android.

Also your doctor's measurement was on a different scale under different conditions. Measure under similar conditions.

Also water weight variations can be 5-10lbs especially combined with hormonal water retention due to time of the month.

Furthermore if you have been under eating and under drinking due to not feeling well... It all adds up!

While these fluctuations are large, they are far from unheard off or impossible to believe!

I dont get my time of the month. Im on the shot lol but the rest helps. Thank you!

You mentioned boots and a sweater at the Dr office that can be 2-3lbs. Had you already eaten before going to Dr. Office? That could be 2-3 lbs. Then your sick and haven't had much to eat and not much water. On top of that 2 different scales. I think you've explained your difference's in your post:).

No I hadnt eaten at all. I did drink over 17oz of water though. I totally forgot... Thank you though! Maybe its a lot of water loss then...maybe I was holding a lot. it just scared me. And maybe my drs scale is off? because mine has been consistent and it weighs my kids properly (matches the scale used at their office which is a dif office) thank you for the reassurance! 13lbs just seems like a lot in 9 days even just going by my scale (both of those were done on mine)....maybe I was holding a lot of excess water. I didnt realize it could be that much!

Weigh your boots, wallet and sweater, pants on your scale at home and throw that weight out of the mix. Unless you weigh yourself at home with that stuff on.

I personally weigh in the buff at home 1st thing in the morning after "morning business". Anytime I go to the Dr. office I know I will weigh more on their scale because of clothes, shoes and it's usually after food or some liquids most times I weigh 3-5lbs more on the dr. scale.

Pick one scale and stick with it to see the downward trend not 2 different scales:).

There was still a big difference of 13lbs in 9 days (at home). The dr may have been off so 10-15lbs in one day is probably not the case lol Good point. I weigh in a long tshirt/night shirt

^ Exactly this. I weigh on one scale and one scale only - the one at home. In the morning, naked, immediately after getting out of bed and going pee. If I ever have to step on any other scale (Dr's office or whatever), I pay absolutely no attention to the reading because 1) It's a different scale, 2) I'm clothed, 3) I've probably eaten/drank/worked out/etc., all of which can affect the reading. I don't even step on my own scale later in the day under different conditions than my usual morning weigh-in - the data is skewed and invalid, so there's no sense in doing it. If you're going to collect data, make the data as useful and meaningful as possible, or don't bother.

My scale uploads to my Trendweight account, which analyzes my overall trend over time and "smooths out" the (completely normal) daily fluctuations. It also uploads to an iOS app (Weight Diary), which does the same thing.

I also have a 5lb up fluctuation thread where you will see this is so common it's fun sometimes

As everyone has said; water weight and normal fluctuations.

Some people, myself included, can fluctuate massively day to day. My "best" was 20lbs in 24 hours.

    WOW that's a lot!

I got back from a two week holiday 13lbs heavier (my body hates long haul flights apparently). A week later it was all whooshed off. It's totally normal.

And yup, I'm on the pill and still get monthly patterns of water retention. I expect the bigger you are the bigger the fluctuations for the most part, just purely due to there being more mass for water to be stored in, though I could be making that up. I do feel my water weight is less than it was at my biggest though.

you might find once your better find youll gain a bit back as 1. you'll begin eating again 2. your drink again.

Most of it stayed off :) I was about 210 instead of 206!
