I recently started working at restaurant and I am on my feet constantly for eight hours a day. I was wondering how much (if any) I could put in as exercise. It seems like if I were doing it on a treadmill it would all go in but if it's work I feel a little guilty putting in anything. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

  • seeing that it is not a real constant elevated heart rate and seeing that you do have down times to where you can slow down, sit, break etc....i personally would use 1/2 of my shift time as a close to accurate estimation.....not sure that i'm politically correct, but thats just my opinion

Tough one, i'm a personal trainer and fitness instructor, I deliver mail as well, and have a walking route, I don't count any of that into my exercise log, only exercise that i've devoted a 100% to, purposeful exercise in order to lose weight, or inmy case maintain My body is accustomed to my regime, and it's part of my lifestyle and how i've entered my activity level in MFP so it's already been taken into consideration...I wouldn't count it, but that's just my opinion.

I would change your lifestyle to active or whatever the one below it is (I think waitress is one of the examples for one of the categories), especially if you are working 8 hrs/day for more days than not.

I agree. I wouldnt count it as exercise. But you can go into your settings and change your setting for how active your livelihood is. Mine for instance is sedentary because I have a desk job.

Thank you so much for your input, I wasn't sure what I should label it as but now I think I'll just change the lifestyle portion. Thanks again :)
