Is it normal for skin to appear darker when losing weight?

I've started to notice dark patches on my skin / uneven skin tone across my body a lot more now than ever before - is there any possible explanation of why this is happening? and any solution to making it more even?

i've lost about 42lb over the past few years, am 20 and 5ft4, hoping to lose another 20-30lb :)

I would recommend speaking with your doctor, and inform them of the patches of dark skin you've been noticing. The sooner you reach out the faster the answer you'll get. I actually once had patches of dark skin on my back, and I reached out to my doctor who told me I was vitamin d deficient, so I started to take vitamins more, and it went away. But each case is different you may or may not be vitamin deficient seek professional help.

Dark patches are sometimes indicative of insulin resistance (pre-diabetes), particularly on skin near the groin, armpits, and back of neck. It's called acanthosis nigricans, if you'd like to look at some images and compare.

I would suggest seeing your doctor to come up with a game plan regardless of the cause.
