Soda and sweet lovers - there is hope for us yet!

Over 2 months ago I stepped on the scale to see the weight 73 flashing at me. I was officially obese for my height. Aside from losing so many friends, my new job I worked so hard at fail me, And overall just being depressed with my life I knew I had to make a change.
I bought a family size cheesecake like I did so many Sunday nights and ate as much of it as I could stomach promising myself this would be the las time. I would change the horrible habits I had developed as a child once and for all.
Everyone told me it's easy you can do it! But so many times when I was younger I would go on diets cutting out all the things I loved and forcing the things I hated down. After two weeks I would always cave. But who could blame me! Since the age of five I'd been drinking coke and by 20 developed a habit of drinking 7 500ml mothers a day (the local dollar shop had a special). Lucky this only lasted 3 months but every day I would drink at least 2 Cokes and during summer that only increased. I never ever ever drank water. For 26 years of my life I probably drank it a total of 3 months due to my past diet attempts.
I grew up on a deep fryer and while kids at school opened their lunch boxes to sandwiches and fruit, I would be chowing down on tiny teddies, chips and chocolate.
This time instead of cutting out the things I loved I decided to increase healthy stuff, minimise my junk intake significantly and just drink water aside from one coke during my cheat meal (lunch out with my mum and sister) or at the end of the day if I was desperate. I love ice cream so I sought out a low calorie and portioned controlled one so I could still eat well and have the thing I loved most. It's my go to after a bad day after all!
When I first started it was very hard. Caffeine and sugar withdrawals on top of starting a new job that would help me afford this new life style pushed me to my limits as I don't take pain killers so I had to endure the headaches. If you opened a soda can near me I would twitch. Saying no to work mates offering me free food or did I want to get take out with them was hard, but it was harder to watch them eat it while I sat there with a banana until I got home for dinner 3 hours later after gym.
But here I am just 2 months later and I've lost 6.7 kgs in just that short time. Too short to me considering my weight isn't that huge and it scares me but still stepping onto the scales today and seeing 66.1kg staring back at me - 1kg off my second goal weight - I couldn't be prouder!
I just wanted to post this so those that had bad eating habits when they were younger that they took into their adult hood - it is possible! It is hard work mind you - but its still possible. Don't lose hope. You can still have the things you love. Maybe in smaller quantities but you'll have more energy and your body will thank you for it.
I still have 8 more to lose to be a health weight - but I know in time I will get there and even better it won't get harder only easier
P.s I haven't had a chance to take a pic yet as the shirt I use is in the wash. Will update soon

I stopped drinking sodas months ago (with an exception to be discussed) and switched to water and unsweetened tea (hot and cold). I did make an exception for when I went to movie; gotta have a Coke with the popcorn. But I hadn't been to a movie in so long that the Coke just tasted nasty because of all the sugar. Same for almost every other soda I tried, except for root beer. There's enough going on with the flavors that I'm able to handle the sweetness, but I only have one with popcorn at the theater.
The Halo Top ice cream is pretty good, and if you accidently eat a whole pint at once it won't wreck your calorie count.
And, finally: congrats on getting through the withdrawals and losing that stone! Hang in there; the results are worth the effort!2 -

Be careful with halo top. If you are sensitive to sugar alcohols (ie the laxative effect) I wouldn't recommend eating a whole pint lol0 -

Especially watch the Halo Top the night before a 5k run. You gotta trust me on this one.2

It's not impossible to do the same while still being able to enjoy soda and sweets. The issue boils down to over consumption and that's a habitual issue. There are lots of people on here who have learned how to moderate and lose. Sounds like you're finding your way to doing this. Congrats.
