Hi All,

I'd like to get rid of the "waving flesh" in the back of my upper arms. (You know the one where if you are waving your hands the back of the arms join you in waving.)

However, I've got carpel tunnel (CT) in both wrists. (One is much worse than the other.) Has anyone done weight lifting with CT? If so, did you wear the braces whilst doing so? Did you find the CT got better, worse, or stayed the same.

I would be moving fairly light weights to begin with.

Thanks!

  • I would be interested in this as well as my carpel tunnel is terrible but I too have the "waving flesh" on my arms and would love to wear shorter sleeves in the summer.

This may not be what you're looking for, but I think the key is how you grip your dumbbells. I would wear gloves (which make holding the weights easier), and try to hold the weight loosely. When I do overhead should presses, I even try to just keep the weight balanced in my hand with my fingers open to keep the tension out of my wrists and lower arm muscles. The tighter you grip them, the more strain you're placing on the areas that are painful and the less focus you're putting on the muscle group in question.

I have CT in both wrists, but I do weights with my work out. Same as glfprncs2 mentioned, part is in how you hold the weights: also, try starting with a lighter weight or wrist weights to build some muscle & get your body used to what you're doing. Start slow, and build gradually: I can easily do 10 lbs dumbbells now & am about to bump up to 15 on some exercises - I switch back & forth between weights so the tension doesn't build up and I give myself breaks. The "wave" is firming up, taking a bit longer than most, but I have a challenge most don't. Persistence & Consistence is key.

    Good Luck:happy:
