Hi all <3 I am at slimming world and weighing in weekly I am finding it very difficult to lose weight most weeks. Either I would maintain or gain. I am guessing medication plays a part in my weight struggles. I am trying my best to eat right and have been exercised every day twice a day on my exercise bike. I havnt used my bike from my weigh in last Thursday. Even some weeks when I don't even exercise at all I would lose weight. But when I exercised twice a day everyday I hadn't lost anything at all. Struggling now on what to eat. Has anyone ever experienced this? Xx

It will be easier to lose weight if you just focus on getting in the right amount of calories. You can eat whatever you want and exercise it you want to, it's not that important for weight loss. Just log correctly. Also keep in mind that you won't necessarily see a loss on the scales every week, not even if you stick to your allotted calories, because your weight fluctuates to the extent that it can easily mask a week's progress. As you have noticed, your body retains water from exercise, and water is part of your body's total mass.

Hi :) can you open your diary? MFP members can usually help if we can see your logging, calorie intake, etc.

Weight loss is all about taking in less calories than you burn. If you aren't losing then it means you aren't eating at a calorie deficit. Exercise should help increase your deficit but you need to be mindful that you still keep a deficit and don't eat all the exercise calories back.

    A) What medication is making you gain weight?
    B) Are you in a calorie deficit?
    C) Training twice a day is not needed.

One of the things I struggle with is not eating more when I exercise. If you look at your logs, are you eating more on days you exercise?

You also used the phrase "I am trying my best to eat right". Without seeing your log it leads me to believe there may be some room for improvement. If you share your log we can see whether there is something there that could help.

Your muscles can retain water when you exercise too. Bottom line though you have to track your food to make sure you're not eating too much.

    1. As much as Slimming World is helpful to a lot of people, you don't know how many calories you are consuming and if it's an appropriate amount for weight loss or what rate of loss.
    2. Exercise, especially in the stop start fashion you are doing it, will cause water retention for muscle repair, masking losses on the scale.
    3. If you only stick to any one thing for a couple of weeks at a time you don't have enough data to know what the hell is going on due to aforementioned water retention. Water retention, particularly in females, fluctuates a lot due to hormones, exercise, salt, more carbs than usual etc.

Bottom line. Pick a method. Stick to it for 6-8 weeks then reassess. My suggestion would be to use MFP and start using a food scale.

I've always been thin and little, 5'3". In the last six years, I have gained so much weight. My BMI is now 26.6 where it always used to hover around 18. I've always been a big eater and could always challenge men when it came to eating. Somehow the calories just evaporated. Now, I'm 43 and for the first time in my life, I have had to start watching what I eat and how much exercise I get.
I don't have bread, sugar or milk anywhere near my house. I don't have rice, potatoes (except a few fries here and there) or pasta. I have a naturally high protein diet (lifelong personal taste) and live on a farm so not completely sedentary. I even drink water now, which I never used to do. I have added some workout routines into my schedule, which includes 10min uninterrupted jogging and some basic HIIT.
I am going on a cruise end of January and seriously need to shake the wobbly bits. I've been watching my caloric intake and added the jogging and HIIT, which I've been doing two weeks now. WHY, oh why am I gaining weight? I don't understand. Yes, I still eat a lot, but certainly less than I used to and mostly below my maintenance caloric allowance. Gosh, I can't eat even less. I'm hungry all the time, as a general rule. I feel I am starving myself, but still getting bigger!
