Always craving the things that bug up my stomach.. but I shouldn't eat. How do you elimate these things completely when you cook for a family that eats them? It's a serious struggle.

I totally feel your pain I have serious stomach issues Gallstones, Heartburn, & Lactose Intolerance. I sometimes make myself suffer for a treat like pizza and ice cream and for a family meal like if we have Mac & Cheese with a meal I just skip that part of it. I have to carry tums with me everywhere and go through a bottle like every two weeks. I am constantly burp no matter what I eat or drink.

I have Crohn's disease, ibs and lactose intolerant and my list of restrictions is longer than my safe food. There are lactose free milks. Also hard cheeses have very minute amounts of lactose and are generally safe.

I use lactaid milk or almond breeze milk, depends on what I'm making, for baking and sauces. Butter has a very small amount of lactose, but if you are sensitive use a chewable lactaid tablet. You may need several. Most Kraft cheeses are lactose free per serving. I buy a mama Mary's pizza crust from Walmart and use Kraft mozzarella. Also, green valley organics makes lactose free cream cheese and sour cream. Lactaid ice cream cookies and cream is good too. :)

I'm starting to think I might be lactose sensitive. Sorry, TMI but get boated and really stinky farts when I eat dairy, especially yogurt or cottage cheese. Is there a test for this? Can it come on out of nowhere (I'm 50)?

That does sound like lactose intolerance. I was never "officially" diagnosed but I know there is a test. Unfortunately yes it can start at any age. I'm a little odd as mine is secondary meaning it is only bad when my Crohn's is in a flare and I tolerate dairy better (except milk I can never drink milk) when I'm more stable.

I cannot drink cow milk or eat lactaid cottage cheese but I can tolerate some yogurt and ice cream occasionally.
When I want milk for some protein, I drink soy milk.

My 29 year old daughter is lactose intolerant. We buy Lactaid milk. She love cheese and mac n cheese and will end of in the bathroom for long periods of time when she eats these. She tries to avoid but sometimes if she knows she will be home she will eat them anyway. She is also intolerant to eggs. She needs to lose weight really bad , she is up to 260 lbs and only 5 ft 4. She is big boned and muscular too. She tries but never seems to succeed as so many foods she doesn't like or is intolerant. So she eats a lot of cereal :/ I really hope that while I continue on my weight journey she will take heed and do something.

I am lactose intolerant. I've eliminated all dairy from my diet as even a little upsets my stomach. The rest of my family can eat it without issue. I make meals that are safe for me to eat (I have other restrictions as well, but that's the biggie) and everyone eats them. We put cheese on the table to add if cheese eaters want it. We buy full dairy ice cream for them to eat while I buy dairy free for me. We use Earth Balance butter rather than regular. I buy unsweetened almond milk for me and the rest of the family drinks regular. It's a pain at first, but you get used to it.

I am lactose intolerant and for the most part i avoid all dairy. Especially things that i know i react the worst to (like whey protein powder). If i need to i will use soy milk instead or "lactose free" items if i can find them.

The worst is... my favorite foods are cheesecake and ice cream. If i know i'm going to go for it, i will take a few lactose enzyme pills beforehand.

edit: oh, and i don't tolerate spicy foods too well nowadays (i deal with a lot of reflux) but i eat it anyway because i just cant stop myself.

I only became lactose intolerant around the age of 28/29. I was a big milk drinker all my life them boom. No more dairy. :( So, yes, it can show up suddenly at any time.

I didn't develop an issue with it until 2 years ago (23) and it came on kind of sudden and randomly. I didn't know what the heck was going on because i've never had an issue with dairy and some of my favorite foods are dairy. So, agreed!

I developed problems with lactose in college. Very recently I've started being able to tolerate it more without a lactase supplement. I still am careful about control portion size and using a lactose free or nonhomogenized milk. If I'm not sure of a food's ingredients I just take a pill.

I should add that my lactose intolerance just showed up too recently I'm 27 I was also a big milk drinker my whole life drinking chocolate milk every morning and eating ice cream several times a week and don't let me get started about how much chips & cheese I could throw down becoming lactose intolerant is a blessing in disguise though since realizing dairy made me feel horrible I've lost like 20-25 pounds

Wow.. well I have been lactose intolerant for about 8 years now, but it's still a struggle. I love milk, ice cream, and cheese. I miss enjoying those things without repercussion... like pizza..omg! Lactaids don't work for me, so it's just avoiding it altogether. It's hard when you go to someone else's house for dinner and they serve something with dairy (even though you know you told them you can't eat it). I always change recipes and make them LF but it's always something that's tempting me. You definitely pay the price when you do have them! Does anyone else break out like a teenager after indulging? I know dairy is known to do that at times, but I think because I rarely have it my body's like
" woah wtf is this" and reacts with pimples here and there.
