Have been on 1200 calories since July 1 this year. Age 68 also arthritis hips and knees. Eat very few premade meals or fast food. Find tons of food to make up meals calorie wise so never hungry. Also lhave thyroid problem. Down 35 pounds. Activity level improving, have extended walks to include short jog intervals, added stationary bike which is easy on joints (would do more but seat is so uncomfortable) on bad days many short walks work. Adjust for how much you feel up to and don't, give up. I have 50 more to go. May your extra weight disappear like a pumpkin pie!
