Cost for trainers?

Just curious for those of you who have trainers. Do you employ them all year long or on and off? I know of a couple in my area who charge $200 for 4 1hour sessions. No way could I afford to have one work with me all year long! I guess that's why I go it alone.

i wouldn't either. but i found a guy who runs a little 'garage' gym and takes up to four people per session, for a hundred bucks a month. he's a trainer and does operate like that, but he kind of floats among all of us as each of us goes through our stuff. i find that more comfortable than being under expensive 1::1 scrutiny the whole time.
in terms of cost, it's about teh same money as it would run me if i were going for a beer and a burger with friends once a week. prolly a little bit less, actually. i wouldn't know as i go lifting on friday nights now3 -
That's a fairly typical price to pay. Some give a discount if you buy larger packages. I think many people should consider seeing a trainer for a few sessions to work on form, but it's not absolutely necessary. I typically pay for a bulk package of sessions with my Christmas bonus and then space them out to last a year. I also compete in bodybuilding and powerlifting, so having a trainer is slightly more important.2

I buy 12 sessions at a time which works out to about $35 per hour. I planned on doing one package to get some basics down but I am on package 4 and I plan on continuing for a while. Partly because I am making lots of progress and I like how hard my trainer pushes me ... and, if I am honest, partly because I don't know how to stop. Lol - I know I am contributing to his income and he is a really nice guy.2

Small groups are an option at some gyms.2

I pay $76 a month for four sessions. I don't need a trainer, but the knowledge is worth more than I have paid.2

I see my trainer every week because I enjoy it and the cost fits into my budget. But I don't need to. It very much has to be an affordability question though. A trainer is absolutely a luxury1

I think it all depends on what you need or want the trainer to provide. Some people need help creating a plan or assistance with form or simple motivation. Problem is that trainers always try and sell you on idea that you need them more than you think you do, which always turns me off. In the world of the internet a lot of these issues can be solved for free. I use Stronglifts for weights which I found here as a plan. YouTube and my phone's camera help me with form. Motivation can be found with user groups or workout groups or group classes.2

Thanks everyone. I may splurge and hire someone for a few sessions to review my form on my lifts. I just can't afford to do it often. I feel like the folks working with trainers are working harder than me and I feel guilty! But on the flipside, I'm not interested in doing box jumps and some of the other things I see them doing. I'll give a trainer a shot and see how it goes.0
