Need help choosing a power cage

I have the pretty yellow one in my garage.
LOVE IT
Lucky you!! I'm jealous! My husband called it "overkill" and said if I use this one and ever get to the point where it's not good enough anymore he would buy me a better one. I think he's still bitter over the Total Gym I just had to have but has been sitting unused for the past couple of years. It still looks brand new because we seriously have never used it. I keep telling him to post it on CL.0 -

Yeah, you should be able to get someone to take it off your hands.
I have one & still use it for some things, even though most of my workouts are barbell / dumbbell now.
I'd actually like to find the attachment for adding extra weight to the Total Gym, but they don't seem to make it for my model anymore. :P0 -

You think it's worth keeping around? I have room for it. I bought the pilates attachment, which came with a dvd, and I think an ab attachment, and have never tried either of them. The pilates dvd still has the plastic wrap on it.0 -
I was going to say that without dimensions and materials of the safety pins, I couldn't really tell you. But that the first two didn't look like they'd be able to handle too much weight getting dropped on them, in case of failure. And that the third one looked like the best.
But, since it's just for you, and unless you start taking roids or are just a genetic freak, then either of the first two are probably fine. I'd probably go with the 1st, just because it's a little bigger than the 2nd (48" wide, vs 44" or 46" - the 2nd wasn't completely clear, but it's still smaller than the 1st).0 -
I looked at the other models you're considering and didn't care for the reviews.
Figured it was worth the extra money.
And we had another gym that sat too. It was a cable thing. But this cage, I use.0 -
I recently bought this one:
It's the Valor BD-11.

Got it online for $432 with free shipping from another retailer. You can get a lat attachment if you want, but it's got the pull-up bar and is a good solid construction. Rated to 650 lbs.0 -

Totally up to you & whether you think you might get some use out of it.
I still use mine here and there -- and there are some things that I think it's good for, including blending light cardio & resistance into one workout -- but if it's going to be a clothes rack, then you might to get a few bucks for it off of CL.
If you're doing something like SL5x5, All Pro, or Starting Strength then you're probably not going to want to do other strength training at the same time, since it'd interfere with your primary routine. But, if you do a few cycles of those, then switch to a different Total Gym routine for 4-6 weeks for variety, then maybe it's worth it, but it's a completely different approach to resistance training -- and a lot of folks on here will be happy to give you a forum drubbing for using anything other than barbells & dumbbells. ;-)
I will say that the TG can be a lot more forgiving if you're recovering from an injury of some sort, so I've used mine that way & to ease back into things.0
