But I also am not in the camp that thinks the belt has to be that tight. It needs to be tight- but not so tight you can't get it on and off.
I believe the article I linked had a section on proper tightening of the belt and you don't need to tighten it that much. You breath out and tighten but you need room to breath and when you lift you push on the belt with your abs that allows your back to use the belt as a surface to push off of.
Yeah I won't be able to check at work- but I've had this conversation before at my gym with several lifters.
If it's so tight you can't get a finger in there- it's to tight. You have to be able to breath in and expand to brace. if you can't- then it's just to tight and sort of defeating the purpose.TresaAswegan wrote: »I use the rack to get mine on and I could go another hole tighter if I really wanted to, so not using it because I wear it uber tight. It's just kind of habit now to use the rack and just lean into it, like how flipping the lever is fun for the lever using people maybe? Also stiff AF Inzer, rack just makes it way easier than trying to pull by hand.
having never used a belt that stiff I can only imagine that it would be helpful- but I'm sure it's all part of "the process" to set up.1 -
If you bulk too hard, levers can be a pain.0

Do it. You can justify that because of all the PB's you'll set with it.0 -

heh. SPEND SPEND SPEND!!!
My friend was like I'TS CHRISTMAS DO IT!
I'm pretty excited about it currently- I've got a 13 MM full width lever black suede with red stitching on the back- red suede inside and a powder coated red lever and black edging.
Debating getting the lever engraved or not- that's like another 35$
It's going to look so purdy.1 -

I've been using a black suede 4"/10 mm double prong powerlifting belt made by Best Belts for years and it still looks like new.
Have considered levers in the past but IMO simpler is better and there's nothing simpler than a traditiona single or doublel pronged buckle belt.0 -

I like my lever belt. I like being able to snap off the tension quickly and plus I'm lazy AF so it's nice to be able to keep it on between sets.
As to throwing it. I still do that sometimes too.0 -
A love how fast you can get a lever belt off and on (theoretically, as I don't have one). I have a 4" double prong that is pretty comfy and didn't need any breaking in.

I use it when I'm about 80%+ of my 1RM. @Leajas, go by % of max and not poundage as its going to differ from person to person. Me squatting 200lbs compared to @JoRocka is a big difference. The only downside is 4" is a little wide for someone as small as me. I'm only 5", so it bumps up against my ribs.
I'd like to see your opinion if you end up getting one @JoRocka.0 -
Other than Deadlifts and Squats, does a belt even really actually benefit for lifting? I'm asking a serious question, I personally think that belts are over used in the gym lol.0

They can help for overhead work as well, if you have issues cueing to stay tight. The weight put overhead is obviously much lighter, but due to being extended out, can make you waver pretty badly if you get even the slightest bit loose.1 -
I have a lever one right now, but as of late haven't had to use my belt as often since I'm not doing a lot of max lifting. This "getting old" thing is making me pay more attention to my quality of lifting versus how much I can lift.

Im 6'3" and 4" is too wide for me because of how I'm built. I tore my intercostal muscles in my rib cage right before my last meet because the belt bumped and squeezed the bottom of my ribs in the hole.

yep- mine was definitely a "treat yor self" belt- it's got lettering on the back and a powder coated lever with engraving on that. definitely indulged.Other than Deadlifts and Squats, does a belt even really actually benefit for lifting? I think they are wildly over used- there was a guy who was walking on the deadmill with his on the other day- and I was SO. confused.
I actually use mine predominately for squats- occasionally dead (not my favorite) but I haven't really migrated on to bench- but I hear it can help.
A large chunk of the numbnuts who lift think it's for protecting your back- when it's not. so yeah- over used- and misunderstood.0
