I work out when I finish work, and then make tea so it's always after 6pm.0

Myth. Meal timing makes no difference. Calories are what matter. Unless you get heartburn or something eating too close to bedtime but otherwise, total nonsense.18

I eat tons of food after 6 PM -- it's the total number of calories you're eating throughout the day that matter for weight loss, not when you eat them.6

There's nothing wrong with eating after 6...millions of years of evolution didn't leave us turning into gremlins if we ate after some certain time...
Keep in mind that many of these notions simply come by way of controlling calories...then they get misinterpreted by media, etc to be "bad" for you. Most people don't count calories and have to have other means of controlling calories...no food after X time is one of those things...not eating carbs after X time is another...it's just a method of calorie control...it has jack to do with how your body actually works.
Hell, I don't even know who or what these people do for a living who can stop eating at 6...I'm often still at the office. I eat dinner every night around 8:30/9 and I'm just fine.5 -
Dinner for me is always after 6 pm. I've lost 80+ lb this year.6

Awww thank you, that's a relief, well I finished a 13 hour shift at 8 and be time I got home, had a bath was nearly 9 so just had something small. Thanx you for the advice guys x1

I've lost 42 pounds so far this year and dinner is almost always at 8:30 or 9, just because I get done working out so late.2

That's fab!! Well done !!0 -
I always have to save myself 300 calories to eat right before bed because I can not sleep if I'm hungry. You're good.3

Thank you I try lol x0 -
I eat 1/2 my daily calorie allotment for dinner, which is around 9:15p.m. I have been practicing 16:8 intermittent fasting. So, I don't usually break my fast until after 1:30 p.m.
My only issue is I do have gastrointestinal problems that make this not the best method for me, but it has helped me with food cravings and in other ways. So, I continue to do it.0 -

When you come across stuff like this...just remind yourself of human evolution...if this kind of stuff were an issue, we would have died off millions of years ago.3 -
A myth. You body doesn't know what time it is, and the metabolism runs 24/7/7.
I eat up to an hour before bed time.2 -
It is a myth. I eat about half of my daily calories after 6 pm.0

Well said. I think where this myth comes from is most evening eating is high calorie, high fat food in very large quantities. If you sit in front of the TV and mindless polish off an entire pint of ice cream and family bag of chips in addition to all the eating through out the day, it is likely you have gone way over your calories and will gain weight.
As long as you work whatever you eat into your calories, you are golden. Good luck!1 -
Eat whatchoo wanna eat when you wanna eat it. Like a minute before you go to bed, even.
As so many others have said... that after 6 thing is a Bro wearing a lab coat.4 -
myth. Eat whenever majority of my meals are eaten between 2pm and 2 am XD0

That is everything I hoped it would be. Thank you.4 -
I think this idea comes from the fact that some people experience sleep difficulties when eating too close to their bed time. Hence it isn't a good idea to eat latter in the evening. If eating later in the evening doesn't affect your ability to sleep, leave you feeling super hungry in the afternoon, or make you under or over full before your next meal, there is no reason not to eat after 6pm assuming that is a convenient time for you to eat.0

I have a bowl of cereal (right now its fruit loops) as I sit in bed at night - last thing I do before I go to sleep - been sleeping like the dead since I started doing that2

This is right on. What matters is that at the end of the day you're at your calorie target1 -
Eating too late in the evening is only an issue for my acid reflux at night. It has never affected my weight loss.1
-
I eat dinner, every night, after 8PM. No issues with it for me. My day pans out like this...
9AM Breakfast
11AM almonds
noon to 1 - Lunch
5PM Hummus and vegetables
8PM Dinner0 -
9:30 and I just finished dinner. Six nights a week I never eat dinner before 7. It's never affected my weight loss one bit.2
-
Ridiculous. What about people who work? They should just never eat dinner? This nonsense is for people with too much free time on their hands. Eat whenever you want - just stay within calories.5
-
I eat my last little meal at 7:30. Doesn't hurt a thing. Do what makes sense for you and your schedule.0
-
I just finished a brilliant taco salad. 11:40pm here!3
