Hi! I'm new to MFP and have decided to use the Keto diet to loose 22 pounds. I have been eating this way for 8 days since experiencing weight plateau at 152 pounds one month ago, but have been on my healthy eating lifestyle for 4 years now. I have increased my cardio (walking/jogging intervals) from 45 minutes to 90 minutes starting on 7/17/13. I also strength train with dumbbells and resistance exercise 6 days a week since mid February 2013. MFP has me on a 1200 calorie diet with a deficit of 730 daily. My ratios are set at 65% (Fat), 30% (Protein), and 5% (Carb). Can someone who's had a successful experience with Keto please give me some tips on using this type of diet? Thanks!

This Keto Calculator helped me set my initial goals.

Looks like your ratios are good to go.
Hardest thing for me, is to make variety of meals. I get into habit eating the same thing day after day...
I would join the Reddit Keto group as well.0 -

Hi there, Ive lost almost 30lbs in Keto - loving the results.
A few things that I only found out later one in the keto plan - excessive cheese can slow or stop weight loss. Its weird, as cheese is the perfect fat vs protein food, but, there is something in it that slows weight loss.
Most veg is high in fibre or carbs - the ones I found safe are: avocados, tomato, mushroom, gem squash & spinach.
The best mayo to get is Hellmans, as the carbs are almost nothing - most the other mayos are loaded with fillers (and carbs) - its more expensive, but, its super.
Nuts - macadamia nuts are super & have the highest fat content
Coconut Oil - Ive stopped using refined vegetable oils, & fry everything in coconut oil, I also eat a teaspoon of it twice a day. It has metablic properties & is a great source of fat... also, the body cannot store it, so it will never make you put on weight.
Ice Cream - I eat this sparingly, Ive found that mint ice cream, the slightly better/expensive brands, use less fillers. Also, as mint is naturally sweet, it has around 30% less carbs per serving.
By number 1 rule with Keto ... if the food doesnt have the nutritional values on, I dont buy it.0
