Lifting. Where do I begin?

I started on MFP in February at 269 lbs. Just this morning I had my first weigh-in under 200! I was 198.4!

So far I have only really done cardio. I wanted to focus on losing fat. Now that I am getting closer to my goal I know that I need to start some sort of strength training.

I have never been on any sort of lifting program. I don't really know where to start. I do not have a gym membership nor do I have any equipment at my house but I'm sure there are things that I can do. Any suggestions?

If you want to strictly do at-home work outs, you will have to have a lot of dedication and self-motivation, along with make a few investments for equipment. Bodyweight exercises are acceptable (squats, plyo jumps, lunges, side walks, sumo walks, etc.) but eventually you will gain that strength and not have any means to push yourself further (therefore building more muscle). I'd suggest a gym membership, and take advantage of the usual complimentary assessment and training to get an idea of how the machines work and where each item is located. Then, look into programs. Although I personally don't follow an online program (I made my own which I critique contstantly to make it work best for me), it is usually how most people start off. I'd suggest investing in some resistance bands (infinity and open ended or handled) and some interchangeable dumbbells.

Define your goal(s). Once you (think you) know what you want to do, check this out this thread: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10332083/which-lifting-program-is-the-best-for-you/p1

Or, check that thread to get some idea of where you might want to go.

Pick a beginner's program, follow it for a month or so. If you like it, keep doing it. If you don't, pick a different one and try it for a month or so.
