Ab work with an abdominal separation?

I just started P90 and I've done the first 4 days. The sweat/cardio routines are followed on the calendar by "ab ripper". Here's my issue:
I have an abdominal separation. I've had it since I had my first kid (4.5yrs ago), and it got worse after my second (3yrs ago). Early on I didn't know that hard ab work would only make it worse and I think I messed it up even more. Now about a year ago, my OB said it's too wide to expect it to heal/close up on its own and my only real option is fixing it surgically. Hopefully I will be doing that after I lose about 30lbs.
I want to get the full benefit from the P90 program, but don't want to screw up my body more. Does anyone have experience with this (diastasis recti if you want to be technical) or have suggestions on modifications or replacements so I don't have to skip portions of the program entirely?
I skipped the "ab ripper" the first day, and did it the next time it came up, but just did like half the height on anything crunch-like.

I did P90X a while back. I found the Ab-Ripper portion to be fairly worthless. Since you have a medical issue, I would recommend against it - at least until you talk to your doctor and/or a physical therapist that has experience with your condition.

You'll be doing some other things that work your core with P90. Ab-Ripper is just extra.

I moved recently and haven't found a new doctor yet. I'll ask them about it when i do. I guess I'll just skip that part for now. The little I did of it the last time I am really feeling today. Like probably more than I should be. Hurts-to-cough type. Ah well. I'll set it aside for the moment.

Abdominal separation and a programme called "ab-ripper" sounds like a recipe for disaster!

I'm not familiar with the ab-ripper program but here's a link to some exercises that may help with your diastatsis recti.....
