Counting steps yes or no?

I started using an app called Pacer...it will count your steps and or log your exercise. It will automatically link it to MFP and then you earn more calories for the day. I was wondering what others do. Do you allow it to add for your steps everyday...or not have it log that and just log exercise separately? I'm leaning to not have it log it and just input exercise separately.

This is trial and error. Step based activity should be estimated fairly well, other exercise estimates may be poor. Use your Pacer as is, for awhile. If weight loss results are slower than expected then cut back. See if there is a group in MFP with your device. They may have specifics.

Also, look for a "negative adjustment" setting. This will keep you honest. This setting can take away calories if/when you don't meet your stated activity level.

My Home menu ....Diary Settings. It's a check box.

I would be hesitant to log steps unless you were intentionally walking for fitness purposes.

Yep. As long as you do this, the system will work things out.

Walking burns calories. If you're walking because you want to improve your fitness, it'll burn calories. If you're walking because you have to pee, it'll burn calories. If you're walking because you're at the grocery store and the butter is all the way over there, it'll burn calories.

I just log intentional exercise. If I burn extra (going to the bathroom or wandering around the grocery) I consider that a bonus, a little cushion to counter foods that are a little more fattening than I thought. Generally my incidental steps are not that numerous, so don't add up to that many calories.
