In the course of discussing a coach's recommendation that my son consider eating more protein, I came across a position statement from the International Journal of Sports Nutrition that suggests athletes get between 1.4 to 2.0 g/kg/day (3.08 to 4.4 grams per pound of bodyweight per day).

https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1550-2783-4-8

I personally get around 2 1 gram per day, and I've noticed that my strength gains seem to be better than when I got less, but 4 grams a day seems REALLY high (although they say there is zero evidence that that amount is risky for healthy people with normal kidney function).

Does anyone on here actually get that much?

ETA - fixed my current intake cause I'm bad at math. 190 g per day is 1 g/lb for a 190 pound guy. Of course, as pointed out below my question is also wrong --- should be 0.64-0.91 g/lb.

You did your math incorrectly. Instead of multiplying by 2.2, you should divide by 2.2.

    So 1.4-2.0 g/kg = 0.64-0.91 g/lb.

More than 1 gram per Lb of LBM and you're just making expensive glucose...

That makes much more sense. Thanks.
